President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah who is in Bangkok, Thailand to inspire the Black Bombers says the victory of Theo Allotey in the Flyweight division must motivate the other boxers who have hnot tasted the ring to win.
He said the competition is very tough and as such every victory must be celebrated.
He praised the boxers for their discipline and coolness despite so many frustrations before and during their journey to Paris, from Dakar through Italy to Thailand.
The GOC who is accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Youth & Sports Hon. Evans Bobie wished the Black Bombers well and urged Ghanaians to pray for them.
Theo Allotey won bronze at the Dakar African Qualifiers last year, and got another bronze at the 13th African Games in Accra. He was at the first World Qualifier in Italy, but could not make it. He hopes Thailand will be the place to qualify.
Altogether 579 boxers from 133 countries are participating in the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok where the total number of the available quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics is 51.
The number of the coaches, officials and team delegations members is 610 in Thailand.
A total of 73 African boxers – 54 men and 19 women – from 25 countries are in Bangkok, Thailand, to battle it out in the final Olympic Games qualifiers starting on Friday, May 24.
The African countries are Algeria, Burundi, Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Cape Verde, Gabon, Guinea Bisaau, Ghana, Kenya, Libya, Liberia, Morocco, Mali, Mozambique, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Niger, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia.
