President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Mr. Kwabena Yeboah has congratulated the eight sportsmen and women representing Ghana at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

He called on Ghanaians sports lovers to pray for the team as it would not be an easy competition.

He said qualification to the modern Olympic Games is not easy as boxing which gave Ghana and Africa the first medal in 1960 and subsequently in 1964, 1972 and 2020, the most laurels at the Games could not make it just like football which claimed Africa’s first medal in 1992.

He was however optimistic that the sprint athletes and swimmers will try their best to make names for themselves and the nation.

According to Mr. Yeboah, it is about time as a nation Ghana takes sports very seriously and support the preparation of sportsmen and women to big international events such as the Olympic Games.

He commended the leadership of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) for securing an ideal camping base in Strasbourg for Team Ghana and sourcing for sponsorship from organisations like the Republic Bank. Horseman Shoes. Kustom Looks and the French Embassy in Ghana.

He appealed to corporate Ghana to invest in sports as that is the motivation to encourage the athletes to give off their best to win medals for the nation.

Mr. Kwabena Yeboah noted that sports federations must also work hard to ensure that they taste the Olympic Games which every sports person dreams to participate in.

He called on the government to invest not only in facilities, but the sportsmen and women as well as coaches and technical officials.

He urged the media to focus attention on the Olympic Games and inspire Team Ghana with positive reports.

Ghana is taking part in two disciplines. Track & Field and Swimming in the Games which begins from July 26 to August 11.
