NPP GERMANY Commends Kwesi Pratt Jnr. For Recognizing Massive Investments Under FREE SHS

NPP GERMANY acknowledges and commend the insightful comments made by Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jr., Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, regarding the significant investments made by President Akufo-Addo’s administration in Ghana’s education sector, particularly under the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

During a recent discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Mr. Pratt highlighted the substantial progress that has been made in enhancing our nation’s educational infrastructure.

His recognition of the government’s commitment to building new science laboratories and improving educational facilities is both timely and appreciated.

Mr. Pratt stated, “I have chanced on some information that points to the fact that a lot is going on in the education sector. I know what I am talking about and Kwami, you know that I do not talk without facts. A lot is happening, and the construction of new science laboratories is also ongoing.”

This acknowledgment underscores the tangible improvements we are seeing in our schools, particularly in the sciences, where examination results have shown marked improvement.

Furthermore, Mr. Pratt urged the government to place greater emphasis on promoting these educational achievements to the public.

He said, “Why the government has made all these massive investments in the country’s education sector but very little is heard about them. I think this is what the government should be talking about.”

His call to action is a reminder that while digitalization and other initiatives are important, the strides made in education deserve equal, if not more, attention and celebration.

This is once again a great testimony considering the numerous benefits Ghana has immensely gained from the current NPP government under Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

We, on this note, crave the indulgence of Ghanaians to highlight some key reliefs and successes this educational initiative has offered:

The Free Senior High School (SHS) program in Ghana has been a significant policy initiative aimed at enhancing access to secondary education.

Here are some of the key achievements and impacts of the program based on recent reports and press conferences:

  • Increased Enrollment: Since the implementation of the Free SHS program, there has been a substantial increase in student enrollment.
  • Many students who would have been unable to afford secondary education now have the opportunity to attend school.
  • Reduction in Financial Burden: The program has alleviated the financial burden on parents and guardians, as it covers tuition, textbooks, meals, and other educational materials.
  • This has enabled more families to send their children to school.
  • Improvement in Educational Infrastructure:
  • The government has invested in expanding and improving educational infrastructure to accommodate the increased number of students. This includes the construction of new classrooms, dormitories, and other facilities.
  • Enhanced Teacher Recruitment and Training:
  • To support the growing student population, the government has recruited more teachers and provided professional development opportunities to enhance teaching quality.
  • Support for Vulnerable Students: Special provisions have been made for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those with disabilities, to ensure they have equal access to education.
  • Positive Academic Outcomes: Preliminary data indicates an improvement in academic performance and graduation rates, suggesting that more students are successfully completing their secondary education.
  • Broader Socioeconomic Benefits:
  • The Free SHS program is expected to have long-term socioeconomic benefits, including a more educated workforce, which can contribute to national development and economic growth.
  • Public and International Support: The program has garnered support from various stakeholders, including international partners, who see it as a model for improving access to education in developing countries.

The construction of new science laboratories, among other infrastructure projects, is a testament to our commitment to providing quality education to every Ghanaian child.

We appreciate Mr. Pratt’s balanced perspective, which not only highlights the successes but also acknowledges the challenges that remain.
