Accra, Ghana – August 6, 2024: The Ghana Internet Safety Foundation (GISF) is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with the National Council of Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA) Ghana.

This strategic alliance aims to significantly enhance the digital literacy of parents across the nation, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to combat Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), sextortion, cybercrime, and other online harms.

The formal agreement, signed at a ceremony held at Head Office of the NCPTA, marks a pivotal step towards creating a safer digital environment for children and families in Ghana.

This initiative is part of GISF’s broader mission to promote online safety and security through education, advocacy, and capacity building.

Empowering Parents to Protect Children Online

The partnership will focus on developing comprehensive digital literacy programs tailored for parents, addressing critical issues such as CSAM, sextortion, and cybercrime.

These programs will be delivered through a series of workshops, seminars, and online resources designed to provide practical advice and actionable steps for parents to safeguard their children online.

GISF and NCPTA will collaborate to create a robust curriculum that includes:

  • Awareness Campaigns: Educating parents about the dangers of CSAM, sextortion, and other forms of online exploitation.
  • Practical Training: Providing hands-on training to help parents recognize warning signs, report suspicious activities, and implement effective online safety measures at home.
  • Resource Development: Creating accessible educational materials, including guides, videos, and interactive content, to support parents in their ongoing efforts to protect their children.
  • Support Networks: Establishing community-based support groups where parents can share experiences, seek advice, and receive support from experts and peers.

A Unified Effort for a Safer Digital Future
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Emmanuel Adinkrah, of the Ghana Internet Safety Foundation, emphasized the critical role parents play in ensuring the safety of children online.

“Parents are the first line of defense in protecting children from online harms. By equipping them with the right knowledge and tools, we can create a safer digital environment for our young ones,” said Mr. Adinkra. “This partnership with NCPTA is a significant step towards achieving our goal of a safer internet for all.”

Mr. Christian Atsu Aikins, President of the National Council of Parent Teacher Association Ghana, expressed her excitement about the collaboration.

“We are thrilled to partner with GISF on this important initiative. The digital world presents both opportunities and challenges for our children, and it is our responsibility as parents to guide and protect them. Together, we will empower parents with the knowledge and resources they need to keep their children safe online.”

Looking Ahead

The partnership between GISF and NCPTA comes at a time when the need for digital literacy and online safety education has never been greater.

With increasing reports of online exploitation and cybercrime, it is crucial to equip parents with the skills and knowledge to navigate the digital landscape safely.

The first series of workshops and seminars will commence in September 2024, starting in Accra and subsequently rolling out to other regions across Ghana.

Both organizations are committed to ensuring the initiative reaches as many parents as possible, fostering a community of informed and vigilant guardians who can effectively combat online harms.
