Accra, Ghana – All eyes are on Accra, Ghana, as it prepares to host the 2nd edition of the All-African Movement Assembly (AAMA), organized by Africans Rising.

The event, scheduled to run from August 29th to 31st, promises to be a landmark gathering focused on fostering African unity, promoting peace, and upholding dignity across the continent.

This year’s assembly is set to be another mega gathering of African movements, activists, and human rights defenders from across the continent.

The event serves as a unique platform for driving collective action and amplifying the voices of those advocating for social justice, equality, and lasting change within Africa.

One of the landmarks of this year’s conference will be the official launch of the AAMA Pan-African Journalists Network.

The network is poised to become a powerful force for supporting independent journalism across Africa, enhancing collaboration among media professionals, and ensuring that the stories and perspectives of African communities are told authentically and powerfully.

Moving forward, the organisation will be seeking media support in covering and reporting on issues affecting the continent. e.g. climate change, governance, water justice, economic justice, gender justice, civic space, reparations, humanitarian issues etc.

The establishment and strengthening of a Pan-African Journalists Network is critical in an era marked by rapid global transformation in all endeavours.

This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Communications & Media Lead of AAMA Ann Lorna.

“We are the voices that narrate the African story, the watchdogs that hold power accountable, and the advocates that champion the rights of the voiceless. But to truly harness our potential, we must do so collectively.

Africa is a diverse continent, rich with a tapestry of cultures, languages, and histories. Yet, despite our differences, we share common challenges—press freedom under siege, censorship, economic pressures, and threats to our safety.

These challenges do not respect borders; they are continental issues that require a united response.

A Pan-African Journalists Network would allow us to leverage our collective strength, share resources, and support one another in ways that would be impossible in isolation,” the release stated.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue, share best practices, and strengthen alliances aimed at addressing the continent’s most pressing challenges.

The assembly is also expected to provide a space for strategic planning, networking, and the creation of solidarity across diverse social movements working toward a common goal of a more united and equitable Africa.

Africans Rising, a pan-African movement for justice, peace, and dignity, has continuously played a pivotal role in mobilizing and uniting diverse groups across the continent.

The 2nd edition of the All-African Movement Assembly reaffirms its commitment to building a broad, people-centered movement that can drive sustainable social change and transform the African narrative.

With an expected turnout of leading activists, journalists, community organizers, and human rights defenders, the event in Accra is set to be a milestone in the ongoing struggle for a peaceful, united, and dignified Africa.

With over 400 physical participants and 1000 virtual participants expected, the AAMA 2024, provides a critical platform for assessing our collective mandate as Africans in our quest for unity, justice, peace, and dignity.

As Africa faces a rapidly shrinking civic space, with increasing crackdowns on dissent, harassment, abductions, and even killings of activists, the need for collective dialogue and unified action has never been more urgent.

AAMA 2024 will convene under the theme “Towards Pan-African Solidarity: United We Stand, Divided We Fall” to address these pressing issues.

AAMA2024 is also happening in the wake of recent protests in Senegal, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda calling for better living conditions and dignity for Africans, especially the youth.

The second edition will build on the first one held in 2022, bringing together 400 activists, human rights defenders, movements, social justice advocates, at least one from each African country and members from the diaspora to convene, converse, connect and strategize.

The issues that would be discussed include Borderless Africa, Climate justice, Gender justice, Economic justice, Ethical governance, Civic space expansion, Reparations.

This will be a great opportunity and platform to look holistically and collectively at the crisis moment that we are in and formulate a systems framework for dealing with these vexed matters together in solidarity.

During the closing ceremony, we shall also hold Activism Awards Ceremony / Gala night to award the 2023 and 2024 Winners
