In the run-up to the December 2024 general elections, a Constituency Executive member of the opposition National Democratic Congress has lashed out at the presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party over what he described as a ‘Sharp Political U-turn’.

In a Facebook post , Oscar Bedzra questioned the motive behind the campaign polices of the vice president, citing that his party’s policies are a direct disagreement to some of the polices that he is currently chairing as the leader of the Economic Management Team by virtue of his position as the vice president.

“Mention can be made of the controversial E- Levy , and the betting tax. Because he and the NPP have realized that most of the youth disagree with these two taxes (E-levy on Mobile money and Betting tax) and could affect his electoral fortunes.

…He is now campaigning against the policies he implemented, and fully running as a leader of the economic management team”- Oscar Bedzra stated.

The NDC activist further advised the youth not to fall for Bawumiah’s revolve to scrap these two taxes as the NPP only included them for favour of votes from the youth.

“… And what shows that any future NPP government will not continue with e-levy on mobile money as well as betting taxes..?”- Oscar Bedzra questioned. “It is for this reason that Vice President Dr Mahmoud Bawumiah is campaigning against his own policies he has implemented.

In a related development, Oscar Bedzra urged the electoral commission to do justice to the register and further advised the Electoral Commission to Re-Exhibit the register after thorough scrutiny to avoid confusions, as Mr Bedzra hinted that the NDC will not accept anything short of what he describes as a ‘clean register and a transparent election results’.
