Accra, December 11, 2024—The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Ghanaians on the successful and peaceful conduct of the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections held on Saturday, December 7.
The association highlighted the event as a testament to Ghana’s growing democratic maturity and resilience.
In a statement issued today, the GBA praised the collective efforts of the Electoral Commission, security agencies, polling station agents, election observers (both local and international), and other stakeholders for ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
It also commended Ghanaians for their enthusiasm and commitment to shaping the country’s future by exercising their democratic rights.
The GBA specifically acknowledged the candidates who participated in the elections for their role in promoting democratic values, with special mention to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his timely concession speech.
The association further congratulated President-Elect John Dramani Mahama on his victory, recognizing it as a reflection of the people’s will.
In its statement, the GBA expressed optimism about the leadership of the President-Elect, urging him to uphold and advance the principles of democracy cherished by Ghanaians.
While celebrating the electoral process, the GBA condemned incidents of violence, including reports of gunshots and property destruction, which led to the loss of lives.
It extended condolences to the families of the deceased and called for an immediate cessation of all lawlessness.
The association urged law enforcement agencies to promptly address reported cases of violence and property destruction to ensure justice and maintain order.
The GBA emphasized the importance of unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, encouraging Ghanaians to guard these values even amidst differing opinions.
The statement concluded with a call for Ghana to remain a beacon of democracy in Africa and beyond.
The message, signed by GBA National President Mrs. Efua Ghartey and National Secretary Kwaku Gyau Baffour, ended with a rallying cry for the continued growth and strength of Ghana as a democratic nation.

GHANA BAR ASSOCIATION’S CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE ON THE SUCCESSFUL CONDUCT OF THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTIONS
On Saturday, 7th December, 2024, Ghana spoke audibly during our Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The Ghana Bar Association (the GBA) extends its warm congratulations to the people of Ghana on the successful and generally peaceful conduct of our elections.
The events during and after the voting processes are a testament to the maturity and resilience of our growing and highly-guarded democracy.
The GBA commends the Electoral Commission, the Diplomatic Community, security agencies, polling station agents and all stakeholders, including election observers, both domestic and international, who worked tirelessly to ensure the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
The GBA applauds all citizens who dutifully exercised their franchise.
The GBA applauds and appreciates your exceptional enthusiasm and commitment to shaping the future of our beloved country.
The GBA extends its profound congratulations to all candidates who participated in the just-ended Presidential and Parliamentary elections, especially to His Excellency Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who proffered a timeous concession.
The GBA also expresses its heartfelt congratulations to the President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, on his victory. Indeed, the good people of Ghana have overwhelmingly spoken in his favour.
The GBA is hopeful that the President-Elect will continue to champion the growth of the democratic tenets the people of Ghana so cherish.
The GBA unreservedly condemns reports of pockets of violent attacks, including gunshots, which resulted in the unwarranted deaths of some persons and extends its condolences to the bereaved families.
The GBA urges all Ghanaians to maintain and guard jealously the unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence that have been the hallmark of the good people of Ghana, even as we express our differing views and opinions.
The GBA makes a passionate appeal for an immediate end to all forms of lawlessness, including allegations of the destruction of properties and attempts at taking over offices.
The GBA calls upon security and law enforcement agencies to handle with dispatch all cases of infringement brought to their attention.
May Ghana continue to be the bastion of democracy within Africa and beyond, and may our nation become greater and stronger.
