Where Is The Voice Of The Church In The Deafening Silence On NDC Stinking Hypocrisy Over National Cathedral??

NPP GERMANY Branch is deeply concerned that Ghana’s public discourse has, over the past few years, been drowned in loud accusations, politically motivated outrage, and fierce commentary—especially on the subject of the National Cathedral project initiated by the Akufo-Addo administration. But today, one question looms larger than ever: Where are those same loud voices now that the audit report by Deloitte has cleared the air?

It is both puzzling and disturbing that in the wake of the long-awaited audit findings—which categorically confirmed that there was no misappropriation of funds—those who screamed the loudest have suddenly gone mute.

From Captain Smart to Pastor Kofi Oduro, to some of the biggest pulpits in the country, the silence is both revealing and shameful.

This was not just an attack on a project—it was an attack on the very soul of Ghanaian Christianity.

The Cathedral was branded by its critics as a grand scheme of corruption, waste, and political arrogance.

And yet, Deloitte’s report—submitted to none other than President Mahama on May 7, 2025—revealed that the funds remain intact in the Cathedral’s accounts, with only appropriate payments made to architects and engineers for works already done.

It also clarified that the project was halted primarily due to a legal suit, not financial mismanagement.

So why is President Mahama sitting on this report? Why has he not made it public? Is it because it exposes the very foundation of the NDC’s anti-cathedral rhetoric as nothing more than political propaganda?

As a matter of fact, all Christians in Ghana should bow down their heads in a very big shame.

Fortunately, copies of this same report are already in the public domain, and attempts to bury its findings will not succeed.

The hypocrisy is stinking. And worse, it’s spreading like a plague. We now hear talk of repurposing the Cathedral site into a “National Cultural Convention Centre”—a narrative that the Board of Directors has firmly debunked.

According to Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah, the Executive Director, no government agency has communicated any such conversion, and the project remains exactly what it was meant to be: a sacred national symbol.

The Cathedral is not just about bricks and mortar—it is a profound symbol of Ghana’s spiritual and national identity.

It was designed to host state religious ceremonies, house a Bible Museum, a Biblical Garden, and serve as a destination for faith-based tourism. It is a heritage site in the making.

And yet, the loudest condemnation came not just from political opponents but from the very quarters where one would have expected support—the Church.

Many pastors were quick to jump on the political bandwagon, denouncing the project in sermons and media appearances, feeding into a false and divisive narrative.

Now that truth has prevailed, will these same pastors mount the pulpit to apologize? Will they now encourage unity, healing, and support for a vision that seeks to uplift the Christian heritage of this nation?

One would expect Christian leaders—especially those who pride themselves as defenders of truth and righteousness—to speak up now, not disappear into silence. Their failure to do so is not only hypocritical; it is spiritually dishonest.

And what of the media houses that led the onslaught? Their front pages once screamed of scandal, but now they’ve tucked their tails and turned the other way.

Are their mouths full? Are they unwilling to correct the very misinformation they helped to spread?

Let it be known: If you are a Christian who partook in this deliberate misinformation campaign, it is time to examine your conscience.

You owe the body of Christ, and indeed the nation, an apology. Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, who was once the face of the anti-cathedral crusade, has suddenly gone quiet now that his party is in power.

His silence speaks volumes about the selective outrage that has come to define Ghanaian politics.

It is time we stopped weaponizing national development for political gains. It is time we demanded the same standards of truth, transparency, and accountability from all governments—regardless of political color.

And it is time for the Church to reclaim its prophetic voice—not in service of political interests, but in the service of truth.

Ghana deserves better. And so does the National Cathedral.

God Bless Our Homeland Ghana!!!

Long Live Ghana, long live the Elephant Party!!!!
