The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr Agyemang Badu II, says Ghana is moving in the right direction under President John Dramani Mahama, despite his personal political position.

In a video recorded on Sunday, December 28, and widely shared on X, the traditional ruler made it clear that he has no affiliation with the National Democratic Congress and would not support the party for personal reasons. However, he said fairness required acknowledging progress being made under the current administration.

“I will never support NDC, I am not affiliated to the NDC and I will not support them till I die, but I have been an NPP member before,” he said. “But where President Mahama is governing the country, anyone who says it is not in a straight direction is a liar.”

The Dormaahene pointed to signs of economic stability as evidence of what he described as effective leadership. He cited the cedi’s exchange rate to the dollar, currently at GH¢11.49, as an indication of relative calm in the foreign exchange market since President Mahama assumed office.

According to him, the stability being observed is not accidental but reflects deliberate policy decisions taken by the administration in less than a year.

He also referred to actions taken within the president’s first 11 months in office, particularly the directive to the Ministry of Finance to release GH¢1 billion to contractors owed by the state since 2017. The Dormaahene said the payment of arrears is critical to restoring confidence among contractors and easing pressure within the construction and infrastructure sectors.

The traditional leader noted that clearing such longstanding debts sends a strong signal about the government’s commitment to honouring its obligations and reviving stalled economic activity.

According to the Dormaahene, these measures show a conscious effort by President Mahama’s administration to reset the economy and place the country on a more sustainable development path, regardless of political affiliations.

The Dormaahene, known in private life as Daniel Mensa is a longtime judge who was recently elevated to the Court of Appeal by President John Dramani Mahama.

His penchant for speaking his mind on national matters is well-known among the public.
