The Young Women Leaders Network (YWLN) has successfully organised a community health outreach programme at the Osman Nuhu Sharubutu School in Kasoa, focusing on menstrual hygiene management, personal development, and life-skills training.
The initiative, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 Good Health and Well-being, 4 Quality Education, and 5 Gender Equality, sought to address barriers that often prevent adolescent girls from fully participating in school and community life.
The programme was facilitated by Hajar Diko Osman, Director of the Young Women Leaders Network, who led sessions on menstrual hygiene management and personal development.
She also engaged students in candid discussions on the dangers of teenage pregnancy, emphasizing its impact on education, health, and long-term socio-economic opportunities for young girls.
Participants were further equipped with practical skills through a hands-on training on the production of reusable sanitary pads, led by Rahina Sulley, the programme’s Lead Trainer.
The session introduced participants to sustainable menstrual products as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative, contributing to long-term menstrual health solutions.

In total, 82 students and 25 female teachers benefited from the outreach, each receiving Eco Period reusable sanitary pads.
These were procured through donations from supporters committed to advancing menstrual equity and girls’ empowerment.
Speaking after the programme, the Young Women Leaders Network expressed profound gratitude to donors, partners, and volunteers whose contributions made the initiative possible.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting adolescent girls through education, advocacy, and sustainable interventions that promote dignity, health, and equal opportunity.
