The Ashanti Region campaign coordinator for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the just-ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries says the former Vice President has been politically vindicated following a series of decisive electoral victories that have reinforced his authority within the party and across the national political landscape.

Backed by formidable campaign structures in the Ashanti Region and other key constituencies nationwide, Bawumia’s consistent success at the polls is being cited by Dr Ayew Afriyie as clear evidence of his “leadership strength, organisational depth, and growing command” of the party’s political machinery ahead of the 2028 general election.

Speaking to the media, Dr Afriyie maintained that Dr Bawumia won the primaries on “merit” and insisted that tribal and religious bigotry claims have been rejected.

“The Ashanti region is one family, one people. We only vote based on competence.” He said.

A certified result by the Electoral Commission (EC) late Saturday night following the primary, confirmed that Dr Bawumia secured 110,643 votes, equivalent to 56.48 per cent of the total valid ballots cast by over 196,000 delegates at 333 polling centres nationwide.

The performance marked a clean sweep in many regions, where the former Vice-President outperformed his rivals.

A total of 196,462 votes were cast, with 561 ballots rejected.

From the regional breakdowns, Dr Bawumia triumphed in key strongholds such as Ashanti (where he polled nearly 20,000 votes), Greater Accra (around 19,800 votes), Eastern, Western, Western North and Bono East (with approximately 69 per cent in that region alone), Ahafo (a clean sweep across all constituencies), Northern and Upper East (over 60 per cent despite one minor loss in a single constituency), and several others.
