President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday February 24 2026 cut sod for the commissioning of an expansion project at Keda (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited in Shama in the Western region amidst donations of tiles and other sanitary ware to selected schools, health institutions, and communities.
President John Mahama who was on his first ever tour of the Keda (Ghana) Ceramics factory expressed his immense satisfaction with the massive operating capacity of the company, its high employment statistics, and its massive CSR commitments.
He also commended the company’s approach, particularly its integration of environmental protection into industrial expansion.
“I commend Keda for incorporating responsible environmental practices into this project. Industrial growth must never come at the expense of the health and well-being of our communities or the preservation of our natural environment for future generations,” the President said.
The massive donations that accompanied the presidential sod-cutting ceremony form part of the company’s Cooperate Social Responsibility initiative, underscoring its commitment to supporting community development.
This also coincides with the growing expectations that businesses must deliver measurable impact in communities of their operations and the country as a whole.
Addressing the event, the Managing Director of Keda (Ghana), Li Wei, highlighted Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a critical pillar of Keda’s operations and industrial expansion.
It is for this reason, Mr. Li Wei said, that the company continuously and consistently balances profitability with a strong commitment to community development and, since its inception, has supported schools, health facilities and community infrastructure projects within its operational catchment areas.
The donated items, valued at approximately GHC500,000, are aimed at improving public infrastructure and service delivery in underserved areas.
“As part of our CSR initiatives, we regularly donate tiles and sanitary ware to uplift schools, health institutions, community projects and government agencies.
Additionally, we provide funding to help these institutions meet their needs and to improve the quality of their service delivery.
We also contribute to national causes, such as the Children’s Support Fund, to which we donated GHC 200,000. In total, our donations to date amount to approximately GHC 5 million,” he said.
The Group Chair, Y.C Shen disclosed that Keda (Ghana) company directly and indirectly employs around 14,500 Ghanaians in its current operations, standing out as the leading private sector employer in the country, according to industry data.
He however emphasized that the company wants to make impact in its catchment areas of operation beyond its workers with CRS initiatives.
“Beyond business growth and employment figures, we are mindful of our broader contributions in improving lives and communities. In this regard, we consider our investments and CSR initiatives as a part of a shared national effort to uplift livelihoods. We therefore commit to continue partnering with the government to ensure that the benefits of growth are felt in households and communities across the country,” he noted.
Accepting the donations on behalf of the beneficiary schools, the Head teacher of Beposo D/A Basic A school, Yunusa Yakubu expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Keda (Ghana) for the donations and praised the profound commitment of Keda (Ghana) in creating a conducive environment for effective and efficient teaching and learning in schools in the Shama District and the country at large.
Keda (Ghana) has distinguished itself as an environmentally responsible company, over the years having integrated environmental safeguards into its production strategy, adopting a zero-waste approach to manufacturing and emphasizing the reuse of waste, all aimed at environmentally sustainable manufacturing.
Keda (Ghana) has also over the years, made responsible manufacturing part and parcel of its growth strategy as a company in order to safeguard the environment for future generations.
In doing so, they have ensured strict compliance with environmental protection agency (EPA) standards and have adopted a zero-waste approach to manufacturing to keep their environmental footprints to the barest minimum.
This approach has aligned the company with Ghana’s broader agenda for responsible industrial transformation.
