The Good Shepherd
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. John 10:11
Jesus is the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep.
Shepherds can sometimes be selfish – pursuing their own interests and taking advantage of the sheep in their care. Not so with Jesus. He is the Good Shepherd who cares for, provides for, and protects His sheep.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd because He willingly laid down His life for His sheep.
This verse therefore captures the heart of Jesus’ mission. He came to lay down His life for us so that, through Him, we can have a relationship with the Father.
Jesus is not self-serving. He is the Good Shepherd who voluntarily sacrificed His life for His sheep.
The sheep may be weak, fragile, and vulnerable to harm. But in Christ, we are secure because Jesus is the selfless Shepherd who laid down His life so that we might have life in Him.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. There is none as good as Him. Shalom.
Prayer: Pray, submitting your life to Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and ask Him to shepherd your soul.
