Status for Service

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; Philippians 2:6

In Philippians 2:5, we are instructed to have the mind of Christ. True fruitfulness is demonstrated when the character of Christ is reflected in our lives.

Christ, while on earth, was fully God. Yet, He did not use His divine status for His own advantage. He did not use His position to intimidate, oppress, or take advantage of others.

Jesus walked the earth in humility and willingly identified with humanity. He experienced the challenges and temptations that come with being human, yet He endured them without sin.

As the Son of God, Jesus could rightly have demanded all the honour, recognition, and privileges that belonged to Him. Yet, He chose the path of humility and service. He never exploited His position or status for His own benefit.

The mind of Christ therefore teaches us that our positions, privileges, influence, and status should never be used to exploit others or manipulate situations for our own advantage. We should not use who we are or what we have to bully others into submission.

Instead, our positions and resources should be used for the benefit of others and the betterment of society.

Just as Jesus said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45), we too are called to use all that we are and have to serve others and make a positive difference in the world around us.

Christlikeness is not merely about what we possess or the position we occupy. It is about how we use our influence, privileges, and resources to serve humanity.

May we have the mind of Christ—a heart that chooses humility over pride, service over self-interest, and impact over personal advantage. Shalom.

Prayer: Pray for a heart like Christ’s, that uses God’s blessings, influence, position, and resources to serve others and bring glory to God.
