Engineer Belinda Beeko has made history following her election as the first female President of the Oda Senior High School Past Students Association (OPSA), affectionately known as Nananom, to assume the position through a formal democratic electoral process.

Her election marks a significant milestone in the association’s history and ushers in a promising new chapter of leadership, inclusivity, unity, and renewed commitment to the development of the alma mater.

The historic election coincided with the successful climax of Oda Senior High School’s 66th Anniversary Homecoming celebrations, held over the weekend in Akim Oda, bringing together generations of past students in a spirit of celebration, fellowship, and shared purpose.

While Engineer Beeko becomes the first woman to be officially elected President of OPSA–Nananom, the association has previously benefited from female leadership. Notably, Professor Grace Lartey served as the leader of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), providing commendable leadership alongside her dedicated team. Their collective efforts and contributions to the association’s progress are warmly acknowledged and appreciated.

Engineer Beeko’s election therefore represents both a historic achievement and a continuation of the valuable contributions women have made to the leadership and advancement of OPSA–Nananom.

A Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer, Engineer Beeko is an accomplished professional with extensive expertise in infrastructure, sustainability, systems, and project and programme management. Her distinguished career in the built environment reflects a strong commitment to professional excellence, strategic leadership, and sustainable development.

Beyond her professional achievements, she is passionate about mentorship, empowering others, nurturing leadership potential, and creating opportunities through meaningful connections. These values are expected to shape her leadership as she works with the executive team and wider alumni community to strengthen the association and deepen its impact.

OPSA–Nananom serves as the umbrella association for all past students of Oda Senior High School, a distinguished co-educational boarding institution located approximately five kilometres outside Akim Oda, along the Oda Nkwanta–Ayirebi road.

The school officially opened on 30 September 1960 under the Ghana Education Trust, chaired by Nana Ayirebi Acquah of Winneba, with Reverend J. W. DeGraft serving as its first Headmaster.

From its humble beginnings with an inaugural batch of 95 students, ODASCO has grown into a prominent second-cycle educational institution in the Birim Central Municipality. The land for its present campus was generously donated in 1957 by the late Omanhene of Akyem Kotoku, Nana Frempong Manso III.

As the institution celebrates 66 years of academic excellence, heritage, and achievement, Engineer Beeko’s election presents an opportunity to build upon the sacrifices and contributions of past generations while creating a stronger and more vibrant future for the association.

Her wealth of engineering expertise, strategic thinking, and project and programme management experience is expected to support efforts towards infrastructure development, alumni welfare, student mentorship, and the mobilisation of resources for priority school projects.

Stakeholders and members of the alumni community have expressed optimism that her leadership will foster greater collaboration across year groups, strengthen the bonds between past and present students, and inspire a renewed culture of service, participation, and collective responsibility.

With Mr. Eric Amoah serving as Headmaster since 31 October 2024, the anticipated collaboration between the school administration and the newly elected OPSA leadership offers fresh opportunities to advance the school’s educational mission and address its evolving developmental needs.

Engineer Beeko’s historic election is not only a personal milestone but also a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusive leadership, service, and the opportunities that emerge when individuals are empowered to contribute their talents towards a common purpose.

As OPSA–Nananom embarks on this new chapter, the focus remains on unity, continuity, purposeful leadership, and building a lasting legacy for future generations of ODASCO students.

For Engineer Belinda Beeko, the journey ahead represents an opportunity to honour the association’s proud heritage, build on the foundations laid by previous leaders, and work collectively towards a stronger, more connected, and more impactful OPSA–Nananom and Odasco.
