Political tensions are high in the Greater Accra NDC as Michael Kwetey Tetteh continues to give the renowned Ade Coker a hot chase over the Greater Accra NDC chairmanship position.

Mr. Michael Tetteh Kwetey, a former National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant and former Constituency Chairman of Ningo-Prampram, is reportedly set to contest the Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship position of the NDC, and information available to this paper reveals that his intention may end the political career of the three-term Ade Coker who in a statement claimed he is an institution for young party people to study.

In a statement signed by Mr. Nunoo Godwin Darko, special aide to the business mogul, responding to some criticisms leveled against the former Ningo Prampram chairman, the writer states that Ade Coker is synonymous with non-performance, inexperience, failure, and an institution with no viable track record.

The media battle between the two political bigwigs of the NDC in the Greater Accra Region started after it was reported that several delegates and influential people in the area were supporting Mr. Micheal Kwetey Tetteh, a young philanthropist and business mogul, to be their next regional chairman.

I came across a rejoinder scantily and pathetically put together to again attack and denigrate the hard-earned reputation of Mr. Michael Tetteh Kwetey, a former National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant and former Constituency Chairman of Ningo-Prampram, by yet another misguided sponsored attack dog from the panic-gripped camp of the NDC’s Greater Regional Chairman, Mr. Joseph Kobina Ade-Coker.

It is unfortunate to note that, after thirty years of uninterrupted, stable democracy in Ghana since 1992, and as social democrats, the opposition National Democratic Congress’ Greater Accra regional chairman,Ade Joseph Coker, is still behaving like a monarch.

The three-time NDC regional chairman of Greater Accra has decided to see his position as a royal position whereby he is always having sleepless nights devising and deploying any available means to shun other committed, experienced, loyal, and hardworking party faithfuls from contesting, especially after hearing of the business tycoon and philanthropist, Mr. Michael Kwetey Tettey, who has a track record of adopting certain constituencies across the country and helping them materially and financially to renew their strength.

In the said rejoinder, Mr. Ade Coker was blindly and blatantly praised and referred to as an institution from which young NDC party members should learn, but the writer forgot to substantiate that many have tried to study at his institution and discovered that he is full of non-performance, inexperience, failure, and an institution with no viable track record.

For the records, in the Greater Accra region, the NDC was able to secure eighteen (18) seats during the chairmanship of Ade Coke’s predecessor out of twenty-seven (27) seats. However, after Ade Joseph Coker was elected as chairman, seven additional seats were created before the 2012 general election, bringing the total to thirty-four (34) seats. The NDC party won only thirteen (13) seats in the 2016 general election and lost five (5) more seats to the NPP.

Therefore, it is obvious that only those with weak mathematical backgrounds and hungry bootlickers will be seen praising a demagogue like Chairman Ade Coker. His underperformance has not, however, led to a significant improvement in adding more seats to the previous ones.

If his poster boy’s assertion that Mr. Ade Coker has thirty years of experience in party politics but he cannot provide the Greater Accra Region NDC with a means of paying its own office rent or secure a plot of land for an ultra-modern party office, then his experience is as useless as President Nana Addo’s economic management team.

I urge him to desist from the undemocratic practices and allow young, faithful, experienced, and hardworking members of the party who have gone through the mill to contest and build the party from the grassroots, making it more appealing to the Ghanaian masses for easy wrestling of power from the non-performing NPP government in 2024.
