In the build up to the NDC parliamentary primaries slated for May 13th, a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Volta Region, Mr. Bansah Elikplim has alleged that some candidates contesting against sitting MPs are being sponsored by the LGBTQI community.
‘I have become aware of a development which has the tendency of eroding the consistency of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) both at the parliamentary and core party levels as far as the fight against same sex marriage in Ghana is concerned , and that the NDC even in opposition cannot be trusted.
In the build-up to the presidential and parliamentary primaries of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress slated for May 2023, some LGBTQI+ groups are secretly sponsoring some incumbent candidates against NDC MPs and other new aspirants (in Ho Central where the incumbent is bowing out) who sponsored the recent anti-LGBTQ+ bill in parliament, sometime, 2021.
These candidates, who signed up to them, in a build up to their declaration of
their candidature, all of a sudden sprung up and are seen carrying out various development projects in their constituencies ostensibly to confuse delegates that they are the right developmental agents.
This according to my source, is intended to reduce the number of MPs who sponsored this bill so they (LGBTQ+ groups) can make progress in the next parliament in their relentless attempts to legalize same sex marriage as the candidates being sponsored have subscribed to the conditions of these illegal groups seeking to legitimize same sex marriage.
This move according to Mr. Elikplim Bansah has the tendency to erode the gains made as far as the fight for LGBTQI+ bill is concerned. He is however worried some of these elements planted would reduce efforts of these MPs to nothing.
Constituencies seriously targeted per our source has it that Kpando , Ho-Central, Ho-West , South Dayi , Krachi-West , Tamale-North , La Dadekotopon, and Haruna Iddrisu’s Tamale South are by far the highly targeted Constituencies across the country .
Indeed , the leadership of the NDC is however not aware of this canker since the leadership of the party at all levels do not subscribe to same sex marriage as a party and I believe they must act true to their words to fish out and bring such persons to book , failure of which has the tendency of creating doubts on the mindset of section of Ghanaians about the credibility of the NDC to fight same sex marriage when given the nod.
The NPP activist equally call on all media houses to be on the lookout for such aspirants since this is largely a “battle between morality and human rights”.
Thank you .
