The world we live in today and are building for future generations is running on high speed increasing technology.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a leading example of how this technology has positively transformed the way we live and work, posing a limitless opportunity for social, economic, and environmental development.

However, amid technological innovation, we are also faced with exponential growth in the number and severity of threats to national security coming from cyberspace, which, unlike traditional territories, has no borders.

As the technology landscape continues to evolve — from clusters of siloed IoT devices to a more interconnected environment — these threats will continue to multiply.

To this effect, Foster Dogbe, an IT Support Specialist / Information Security Analyst, and David Gyedu (DK Cyber) a cybersecurity analyst, advocate, ethical hacker, and digital forensic Investigator have established a Cybersecurity and IT Skill Development Center (Cyber1Defence Communications Limited) to train the youth especially women and Children in cybersecurity.

Speaking at the official launch of the center at Abelemkpe in Accra, Co-Founder David Gyedu said, Cyber 1Defence Communications Limited aimed to create a safer world where cyber security threats will no longer pose a significant risk to individuals, organizations, and government.

Adding that, the center will focus on offering unapparelled cyber security solutions and IT training designed to safeguard critical assets, information, and infrastructure from emerging and complex cyber security threats.

He emphasized that his outfit is poised to bring Cyber Security to globally recommended levels and to equip trainees with global standards especially women and young girls.

On his part, Dr Osei Bonsu Dickson, Chief Legal Advisor at the Ministry of National Security lauded the founders, saying that the establishment of the center will contribute massively towards educating and building a cadet of Ghanaian cyber security professionals educated to understand, identify and avoid cyber threats is in the right direction.

This he said will complement government interventions towards the fight against cyber fraud and other negative happenings on the internet, as well as creating employment for the youth in the country.

He noted that Ghana in recent years embarked on an inclusive and citizen-led, multi-stakeholder approach at the core of its efforts to address the country’s cyber security challenges.

He underscored that Ghana is 1 of only 12 African nations with a national cyber security strategy and incident response capabilities.

The unveiling of Cyber 1Defence according to him is another milestone towards the country’s continued efforts to build on the foundation laid in strengthening cyber security in the last few years.

“We have become very vulnerable with the speedy growth of technology, reliance on the computer, the internet and internet of things (IOT)”.

He, therefore, admonishes the youth to take advantage of this training center to acquire skills in cyber security with seriousness and dedication.
