But for the agility and dynamism of the hardworking team of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party,  the story would have been different in the recent tour of the Ashanti Region by the Vice President.

If the plans hatched by some executives and party faithful aligned to the Energy Minister and MP for Manhyia South had succeeded, the Vice President’s tour would have resulted in one huge embarrassment.

It would be recalled that a few months ago there were attempts by some loyalists of the Energy Minister to incite the Seat of the Golden Stool against the Regional Chairman of the ruling by alleging that he (Chairman Wontumi) was usurping the powers of the King.

After these failed attempts,  these internal saboteurs unrelentingly moved a step further by throwing some red herrings about the operational structures of the Regional Chairman, alleging neglect and threatening to stay out of all party activities during the tour Regional Campaign launch.

Not still satisfied, the internal renegades then planned to adopt a ‘wait and see’ attitude towards the recent tour by the Vice President to the Ashanti Region.

Once again this plan hit the rocks, thanks to the pragmatic strategies adopted by the team working for the regional chairman.

It is for this reason that tongues are still wagging over how the Vice President will still consider someone whose supporters have demonstrated time without number that they have little regard for the unity and success of the party, so long as it is not in the interest of their paymaster.

It is for this that there are reports about the decision by team members of Chairman Wontumi to take a back seat and suspend all activities involving the party if leadership goes ahead to confirm Napo as the running mate.
