The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has affirmed that Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has remained steadfast in addressing economic issues while pioneering Ghana’s digital transformation.
Delivering the keynote address at the launch of the flagship ‘eSkills4Jobs’ initiative at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), the Minister and Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West refuted claims from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that Dr. Bawumia had diverted attention from economic concerns.
“According to the World Bank, the digital economy drives economic growth and job creation, contributing over 15 percent of global GDP. Dr. Bawumia is committed to building our digital economy, which will have a profound impact on the nation’s economic landscape. Emphasizing digitalization can significantly enhance our GDP growth. The person who both understands digitalization and champions its benefits for Ghana’s economy is none other than Dr. Bawumia,” Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful remarked.
She encouraged the youth of Ghana to support the NPP and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming election on December 7, 2024.
The ‘eSkills4Jobs’ initiative, a project by the Government of Ghana implemented through GI-KACE in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) and funded by the World Bank, seeks to bridge the digital skills gap and promote inclusive digital careers for marginalized communities. This initiative aims to boost employability, foster quality job creation, and drive innovation within Ghana’s digital economy.
Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari, Director-General of GI-KACE, announced that participants in the ‘eSkills4Jobs’ initiative would receive comprehensive training in key areas, including Web Technology, Data Analytics, Graphic Design, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing, and Professional Blogging, among others.
Dr. Yeboah-Afari commended the World Bank for its financial support and the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation for its dedication to ensuring broad participation in Ghana’s digital revolution.
Mr. Kwame Owusu, Board Chairman of GI-KACE, emphasized the importance of digital skills as the foundation of a modern, inclusive, and prosperous society. He urged the youth of Ghana to take full advantage of the fully funded ‘eSkills4Jobs’ initiative.
