Mr. Yahaya Alhassan, President of The New Ghana Social Justice Forum, has called on Ghanaian celebrities to cease endorsing or collaborating with Bel-Aqua, a brand under the Blowplast Group of Companies, for forcible acquisition of Akumajay land.

He described such associations as supporting the unlawful seizure of Ga lands and the disenfranchisement of the Akumajay family, the rightful allodial owners.

The Blowplast Group,  took over land at Abossey Okai-Japan Motors, belonging to the Akumajay family, in contravention of Section 2 of Act 1036 of the Ghanaian Constitution regarding allodial ownership.

Lands leased for specific purposes are legally required to revert to the original owners if not used as intended, per a Supreme Court ruling.

CELEBRITY ACCOUNTABILITY:

Celebrities who promote Bel-Aqua or participate in events linked to the Blow Group are accused of aiding and abetting a crime.

High-profile attendees of Bel-Aqua’s recent “Healing Together Vigil 2.0” concert, held on 31st October 2024, include Camidoh, Cina Soul, and Kafui Dey.

The Forum plans to advocate for diplomatic action, such as visa sanctions for celebrities who continue their affiliation with the brand.

BOYCOTT OF BEL-AQUA

Until the said land is given back to the Akumajay family, the new Ghana would intensify the noble call on the general public to boycott Bel-Aqua water, including writing to state institutions and other organizations to cancel business transactions with Bel-Aqua   and  Blowplast products.

CULTURAL AND POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS

Mr. Alhassan underscored the importance of protecting Ga lands as part of Ghana’s cultural identity, condemning the actions of foreign-owned companies such as Blowplast  that undermines local communities.

He expressed support for President-elect John Mahama’s manifesto commitment to improve transparency in land acquisition processes and redistribute lands to marginalized Ga communities.

The New Ghana vowed to intensify efforts to reclaim stolen lands and safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups and families, emphasizing that Ghana’s lands must remain under the control of its people.

Yours Sincerely,

Yahaya Alhassan
