Mary Posch-Oduro Becomes First Active Diaspora Member Appointed To NPP’s National Council of Elders

In a historic move that underscores the growing influence of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) international branches, Mrs. Mary Posch-Oduro of the NPP Germany branch, has been officially appointed to the party’s National Council of Elders.

This landmark appointment makes her the first active member of the Diaspora to join the prestigious advisory body.

The appointment was confirmed in an official letter signed by NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, following its approval by the National Executive Committee during its meeting on April 16, 2025.

“I have pleasure informing your appointment as a member of the National Council of Elders… It is our hope that you will actively and positively, together with the existing members, work for the development of our party,” the letter stated.

Mrs. Posch-Oduro’s elevation to the Council is widely seen as a recognition of her decades-long commitment and tireless contributions to the NPP both in Ghana and abroad.

A stalwart of the party since its early days in the Diaspora, she was born on September 12, 1958, in Agogo, and hails from the Nkwatia-Kwahu clan in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

She played a pivotal role in founding the NPP Germany branch, serving as its founding Treasurer and Woman Organizer from 1992 to 1998 — notably the only woman in the executive team at that time.

She later became the branch organizer (2000–2014), then patron (2015–2018), and currently serves on both the Council of Elders in Germany and the Europe-wide Council of Elders.

In Ghana, she has been a member of the Ablekuma West Council of Elders and a member of the party’s national welfare committee since 2019. She has also twice contested for the position of national treasurer in 2018 and 2022.

Her unwavering support for the party has gone beyond leadership roles. She has contributed to numerous party campaigns and logistical efforts over the years.

Notable contributions include:

  • Facilitating the donation of 11 salon cars by NPP Germany to support party activities in 2000.
  • Supplying second-hand clothes to the Volta Region and supporting campaigns in Northern Ghana.
  • Providing a pickup truck for party use through Captain Koda.
  • Adopting the Dormaa West constituency in 2016, leading to the party’s historic victory there.
  • Donating campaign materials such as T-shirts and nose masks to over 20 constituencies, including several orphan constituencies in the Eastern Region, during the 2020 elections.

Her appointment has been widely applauded by both local and international party faithful, with many describing it as a well-deserved recognition of her unrelenting service to the NPP.

As she takes up her new role, party insiders say Mrs. Posch-Oduro is expected to bring a fresh international perspective and serve as a bridge between the party’s grassroots in Ghana and its rapidly growing base abroad.
