ADVOCATES FOR CHRIST GHANA HONORS BOLD JESUS WITNESS ON THE FOOTBALL PITCH

June 27, 2025 – Kumasi, Ghana – – “Emmanuel Annor can be fined for his faith on the field but certainly cannot be silenced for his devotion to God” – A4CG chants solidarity with Emmanuel Annor in his Bold Christian Witness.

In a time when public expressions of faith often face pushback, Ghanaian professional footballer Emmanuel Annor has emerged as a courageous beacon of Christian witness on the national stage.

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, Christian Policy lobbyist and think tank group – Advocates for Christ Ghana (A4CG) together with GHAFES IHCF-KNUST, hosted a special recognition event at the Queens Hall Chapel, KNUST, to honor Annor for his unwavering stand for Jesus Christ.

Annor, who plays for Nations FC, made headlines during a Ghana Premier League match against Kumasi Asante Kotoko when he scored a goal and revealed an undershirt boldly inscribed with the words ‘I belong to Jesus.’

While the moment inspired many believers across the country, it also triggered a sanction by the Ghana Football Association, which fined the player GHS 500 for what was deemed an ‘unauthorized religious expression.’

In a swift response, Advocates for Christ Ghana, publicly condemned the fine and reaffirmed Annor’s constitutional right to freedom of religious expression.

As part of their support, the group refunded the entire fine, standing in firm solidarity with the player’s public testimony.

The recognition event was deeply symbolic and spirit-filled.

GHAFES IHCF-KNUST executives received custom T-shirts with the front inscription: “I belong to Jesus” and the back reading: “I stand with Emmanuel Annor.”

Mr. Annor himself was presented with a branded “I Stand with Emma” shirt and a special edition Golden Jubilee English Standard Version (ESV) Bible-underscoring GHAFES’ 2025 theme: “Thriving Disciples
Committed to Scripture.”

“This is not just about football,” said Mr. Jackson Oduro, Zonal Ministry Coordinator for the Mid-Ghana Zone. “This is about young people who are unashamed of the Gospel and bold enough to let their light shine in every arena of influence.”

Mr. Annor expressed heartfelt gratitude to Advocate for Christ Ghana,
GHAFES IHCF-KNUST and the entire Christian community for their support, encouragement, and spiritual reinforcement.

The gathering closed with fervent prayer and a renewed charge to all students and attendees to stand for Christ boldly – no matter the cost.

This moment has not only affirmed one young man’s faith but has ignited a fresh wave of bold discipleship and Gospel proclamation in Ghana’s universities, sports arenas, and beyond.

Advocates for Christ Ghana has also made a separate submission challenging the grounds for penalizing Emmanuel Annor and calling for an urgent policy and practice review on the matter.
