With bold ambition and a clear vision for Ghana’s youth, the Leadership Empowerment Club (LEC), in strategic collaboration with MTN Ghana, last Saturday wrapped up the 2025 edition of its flagship National Youth Mentorship Summit and Awards at the University of Ghana.
The event wasn’t just another youth conference—it was a loud, clear call for transformation.
“Youthpreneur: A Catalyst for a New Economy” was the rallying theme of the summit, calling on young people to move from waiting in line for jobs to becoming the architects of their own futures.
The event brought together hundreds of young change-makers, students, and aspiring entrepreneurs to learn, connect, and rise.
Creating Builders, Not Job Seekers
Albert Prempeh Kusi, the visionary behind LEC, set the tone with a compelling call to action. Speaking from experience, he challenged the traditional mindset that ties success solely to employment.
“In Ghana today, many graduates are disillusioned,” Kusi said. “Our focus must shift. We must build a generation that creates jobs—not just one that waits to be employed.”
Kusi’s own transformation, heavily influenced by a decade and a half of mentorship from Rev. Albert Ocran, was a testament to the power of guidance and the right environment.
Digital Power for a Digital Age
MTN Ghana, a key partner in the summit, is betting big on the digital future since the company believes young Ghanaians should lead the new transformation.
Ebenezer Terkpeh, Education Portfolio Advisor at MTN Ghana, emphasized that the company is evolving beyond telecom into a full-fledged tech powerhouse.
“We’re no longer just about voice and text. MTN is building a tech ecosystem. But to truly localize innovation, we need skilled Ghanaians leading the charge,” Terkpeh stated.

Through the MTN Skills Academy, young learners now have access to free, globally respected courses in programming, cybersecurity, data science, and more—thanks to partnerships with platforms like Coursera. These programs even offer certificates from world-class institutions, including the University of Chicago.
Additionally, MTN’s Career Guidance Platform is helping students discover purposeful career paths while equipping them with practical life skills—from personal branding to effective communication.
Africa’s Future is Young—and Ready
Speaking on MTN’s broader vision, Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Senior Manager for Corporate Communications, placed Ghana’s efforts in a continental context.
“This isn’t just a Ghana story. We’re working to empower one million young Africans—with at least 100,000 of them here in Ghana,” she said.
She stressed that whether in medicine, business, or the arts, every young African needs digital skills to thrive in the new economy.
The MTN Skills Academy and Career Guidance Platform remain flagship initiatives under the MTN Ghana Foundation, underscoring MTN’s long-term commitment to youth development and digital inclusion.
Rewarding Excellence, Fueling Passion
The summit’s climax celebrated not only learning—but leadership. High-performing students were honored for their contributions and vision, receiving gifts ranging from MTN souvenirs to airtime bundles. The top award—a brand-new laptop—went to the most outstanding participant, marking a fresh start in their journey toward innovation and impact.
