The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) USA, Massachusetts Chapter, Mr. Louis Amoako-Mensah, has urged party delegates and supporters to put unity above personal interest as the party heads into its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

He stressed that avoiding disunity and unnecessary internal conflicts is the surest path for the NPP to return to power in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with journalist Alexander Anyankwaa, Mr. Amoako-Mensah emphasized that the early timing of the NPP’s primaries was a wise decision that would give the party enough time to heal, reorganize, and rally together for the bigger national contest.

“Disaffection and disunity contributed to our overwhelming downfall in the 2024 elections. These early primaries will allow us to unite well ahead of 2028, giving us enough time to heal and come together in the common interest of the NPP,” he stated.

He added that the upcoming primaries have already attracted five aspirants—former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former MP Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, former General Secretary Hon. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

According to Mr. Amoako-Mensah, all five are “heavyweights” and equally qualified to lead the party.

“They are brainy, competent, and marketable leaders who can win the confidence of Ghanaians. But only one person can emerge, and that choice lies with the delegates. I appeal to them to put unity and Ghana’s interest first,” he added.

He further cautioned delegates against indulging in tribal, religious, or smear campaigns, urging them to judge candidates by their competence, vision, and solutions to Ghana’s pressing challenges such as galamsey, inflation, and economic instability.

“Ghanaians are watching. We need someone affable, competent, visionary, and marketable enough to bring victory in 2028. Personal attacks, religious and tribal labels, or insults will only divide us and weaken our common front. In the end, the winner will need everyone’s support to campaign,” he advised.

He went on to emphasize “I also urge NPP delegates to truly closely examine the messages from all the 5 candidates and elect nothing but the best person who can help the party and will be loved by all Ghanaians to help us wrestle power back in 2028.

That brings me back to the fact that delegates should also check and consider the interests of Ghanaians and not just their NPP interest; I mean the one that Ghanaians will also support and endorse.

We are all one people in the NPP with a common agenda so let’s eschew smear campaigns and insults because in the end when the person wins, he is the same person we are all going to campaign for and if you have said worse things about him, how can you campaign for him?

….What we need is someone brainy, afable, competent with a good vision for Ghana and the one who has Ghana on his heart, marketable enough to give us the victory we want in 2028.

Let’s take for example this Galamsey menace which is now a hard canker to fight, who among these candidates can help us tackle this challenge once and for all.

….As I speak to you, look at inflation and the economy of Ghana, who among these 5 candidates may have the best solutions to economic growth and advancement. Who can bring inflation down? Look at the current prices of items on the market, prices of goods and services are fluctuating like hell.

I believe these are some of major assessments NPP delegates should thoroughly consider because Ghanaians are looking for the best candidate with the best action plans that can help them to develop our country; people are fed up with sweet promises that bring nothing to them in the end.

So, I will reiterate once again that let’s vote for that one person with the best knowledge and ideas for running a country and we are good to go for NPP victory 2028.”

Mr. Amoako-Mensah further reiterated that party leaders in the Diaspora would remain neutral in the process, leaving the decision entirely to the delegates.

However, he stressed that whichever candidate emerges should be one capable of regaining the trust of the Ghanaian people.

He concluded with a strong call for peace and focus:

“Let’s play it safe and peaceful. Let’s avoid petty distractions. Delegates must consider not just the NPP’s interest, but the candidate who will win the hearts of Ghanaians. That is the only way the NPP can come back to power in 2028.”
