The President of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies and the Ghana-China Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Tang Hong, has reaffirmed the Chinese business community’s long-term commitment to Ghana’s industrial growth, disclosing that the Bright International Industrial Zone and Amusement Park project in Afienya, Tema, is expected to create between 30,000 and 200,000 jobs for Ghanaians over the next decade.
Mr. Tang Hong made this known in his keynote address when President John Dramani Mahama joined Greenhouse Group Chairman, Mr. Zheng Xiangming, at Afienya on Saturday, 9th October 2025, to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the $300 million Bright International Freezones Amusement Park.
The event, hosted at the sprawling Bright International Free Zones Industrial Park, attracted traditional leaders, government officials, business executives, and members of the diplomatic corps.
President Mahama described the project as “a world-class facility that embodies Ghana’s industrial renaissance and the 24-hour economy dream.”
A Dynamic Engine of Growth and Opportunity
In his speech, Mr. Tang Hong expressed deep appreciation to all stakeholders who made the landmark project possible, noting that it represents “a powerful symbol of strong confidence and long-term commitment of Chinese enterprises in Ghana.”
“It is a great honour to stand before you today on this historic occasion. The groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the Bright International Industry Zone with a modern prime leisure and amusement park signifies our joint vision for growth and development,” he said.
He revealed that the entire project covers 1,500 acres of land, out of which 900 acres have already been developed, accommodating more than 60 companies currently operating across diverse sectors — from building materials to home appliances and consumer goods production.
According to him, “This is not merely an industry zone but also a dynamical engine of growth, innovation and opportunities. This place is generating a great deal of fortune and economic impact.”
At present, the industrial park employs about 15,000 Ghanaian workers and several thousand Chinese nationals, which he described as “a testament to our shared progress and prosperity.”
Creating Jobs and Supporting Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Vision
Mr. Tang Hong stated that the Greenhouse Group, developers of the project, is poised to create over 30,000 direct lucrative jobs within the next three years, with projections to surpass 200,000 jobs within 5 to 10 years as more companies establish their operations within the zone.
He described the project as “a modern investment that stands as a partnership in prosperity,” affirming the Chinese community’s unwavering support for the government’s 24-hour economy policy initiated by President Mahama.
“The Bright International Industrial Zone representing the Chinese Community here in Ghana proudly supports the government of Ghana’s 24-hour economy policy,” he emphasized.
Commending President Mahama’s Leadership
Mr. Tang Hong also used the occasion to commend President Mahama for what he described as “excellent leadership and economic discipline” in stabilizing Ghana’s fiscal environment.
“Mr. President, let me use this opportunity to commend you and your government for the excellent work you are doing during your term in resetting Ghana and restoring confidence by ensuring fiscal discipline and responding to social and environmental challenges,” he said.
He further praised the President’s recent address to the United Nations General Assembly, noting that it reflected “the revived spirit of the African giant, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.”
“Listening to your speech addressing the UN General Assembly recently, I feel and see in you the revived spirit of the African giant Kwame Nkrumah. It is our hope that this transcends to the industrial and infrastructural development of the whole of Ghana,”* he added.
Strengthening Economic Confidence and Industrial Growth
Mr. Tang highlighted the positive impact of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative, explaining that it is already contributing to accelerated export development, boosted infrastructure expansion, reduced inflation, and currency stabilization, which are major incentives for foreign investors.
“The 24-hour economy policy extends to the accelerating export development concept, boosting road infrastructure, reducing inflation, and most importantly stabilizing the dollar and other currencies — these are significant gains that we, as the business community, are happy about,”* he stated.
A Partnership for Shared Prosperity
Mr. Tang concluded by reiterating that the Bright International Industrial and Amusement Park is a partnership for shared prosperity, positioned to become one of Ghana’s most transformative industrial and entertainment hubs — a symbol of friendship, innovation, and sustainable development between Ghana and China.
“This project is all geared towards building a solid hope for the future — a future that is so far, so good,” he concluded, drawing resounding applause from the dignitaries and investors present.
Background
The Bright International Freezones Amusement Park, a $300 million private investment by the Greenhouse Group, will serve as a multi-purpose industrial, commercial, and leisure enclave. Beyond its amusement facilities, it will integrate industrial parks, export hubs, and logistics services designed to align with Ghana’s 24-hour economy policy and economic transformation agenda.
With the first phase already underway, the project is expected to attract dozens of multinational partners and become a major contributor to job creation, tourism, and manufacturing output in Ghana’s Tema-Afienya industrial corridor.
