Accra, Ghana—President John Dramani Mahama has extended Ghana’s famed warmth and hospitality to the visiting German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is on a three-day state visit to Ghana aimed at strengthening relations between the two nations.

During bilateral talks at the Jubilee House in Accra, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across key sectors and signed a new agreement to enhance political consultations between Ghana and Germany — a move that marks a new chapter in their long-standing partnership.

Discussions centered on issues of mutual interest, including regional security, trade expansion, the promotion of labour mobility for young Ghanaian professionals seeking opportunities in Germany, and a shared commitment to defending multilateralism on the global stage.

President Mahama and President Steinmeier also pledged to intensify collaboration in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, as well as in technical and vocational training (TVET).

The two countries are further set to strengthen ties in business partnerships, the automotive sector, peacekeeping, and counterterrorism initiatives.

In a significant gesture of support, President Steinmeier announced a €65 million grant from Germany to finance priority development projects in Ghana, underscoring Germany’s confidence in Ghana’s democratic stability and economic potential.

Adding a touch of nostalgia and pride to the visit, legendary Ghanaian-born German footballer Gerald Asamoah joined the German President’s delegation, symbolizing the deep cultural and human connections between the two nations.

The visit, marked by cordial exchanges and renewed commitments, is widely seen as a memorable and impactful milestone in Ghana–Germany relations, paving the way for even greater cooperation in the years ahead.
