The Sports Supporters Union of Ghana clad in colourful red, gold and green defied the heavy downpour at Legon last Sunday to do what they love doing best by singing, dancing and cheering while it was raining at the 24th African Seniors Athletics Championships.
They were resilient and also showed the reason why they are die hard and ready to deliver at all times and everywhere.
The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah was touched by their show of patriotism and hailed them.
He said the fans have proved their commitment and determination to support to the fullest.
He assumed their rewards are on the way, and they should keep on supporting Ghana Sports.
“These guys are strong and really committed to the cause, they have shown love for the Competition” he said.
The Ghana Supporters were led by popular leaders, Polo 4040, Guntu and Apirigu Chakapama.
Meanwhile the six day Athletics Championships ended successfully, despite late rains halting the final day for a period.
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon.kofi Adams declared the Championship finally closed hoping that the next hosts would come up with a better organization to put Africa high.
He noted that despite some early hitches, all the petty issues were solved and all athletes and officials were happy at the end.
Ghana placed 16th on the overall medals table at the time of going to press with South African on top and Cameroon at second, while Ethiopia took the third position and Nigeria at fourth, as Botswana claimed fifth position.
Ghana’s Athletics President Bawa Fuseini handed over the official flag to Botswana, confirming Botswana as the host for the 25th African Senior Athletics Championships in 2028.
