The 2026 Commonwealth Games is around the corner and Ghana is taking part in some disciplines including Judo.

Last week, the President of the Commonwealth Games Ghana, Richard Akpokavie, Esq released the list of athletes and events that Ghana is going to participate in, making the coaches to get the best in putting finishing touches to athletes they have trained with the hope of bringing home a medal.

For Judo, Head Coach Elkanah Dodoo said he picked two athletes (a male and a female for gender balance) who are medals hopefuls, namely Dallas Awanyese who weighs 100 plus and a female, Elizabeth Oduro, but the President of the Ghana Judo Federation Samuel Kenneth Arthur has interfered in his selection and taken another name Frema Agyei, to the Commonwealth Games Ghana secretariat to feature two female athletes.

Coach Dodoo asked that if Presidents will interfere in coach’s duties, where is the sport leading to?

He further stated that Frema is a junior athlete who has an opportunity to represent Ghana at the Youth Olympics in Dakar very soon.

“The Commonwealth Games is for seniors and best athletes not ma try ma kwe” he expressed

According to Coach Dodoo he tried to abide by the objective and goals of the CGA President who said in the slogan of Team Ghana that Ghana must go to Glasgow and bring gold.
