Dear Sir,

RE: DEMAND FOR IMMEDIATE RETRACTION, FRONT-PAGE APOLOGY AND NOTICE OF INTENDED DEFAMATION ACTION

We act as Solicitors for Ms. Angela List (“our Client”), upon whose express instructions we address you.

Our Client has drawn our attention to the front page of your publication in which, in screaming banner headlines spanning virtually the entire width of your newspaper, you describe her as “THE GALAMSEY QUEEN OF NZEMA” and compound this libel by publishing immediately beneath the headline the statement “How Angela List used State power to seize an Australian Mine and turn it into a ‘Galamsey Empire”

Worse still, the body of the actual story is replete with factual distortions and misrepresentations pieced together and presented in a manner designed to permanently associate our Client’s name with one of the most notorious criminal activities confronting this Republic.

The publication represents a disturbing departure from the fundamental standards of responsible journalism. It is obvious that you have weaponized press freedom to inflict unwarranted reputational harm to our Client.

Our Client emphatically denies the allegations published by you and rejects as entirely false and malicious, every defamatory imputation arising therefrom.

Our Client enjoys an established reputation both within and outside Ghana and she has invested considerable time, effort and resources in building that reputation. Your publication has exposed her to hatred, ridicule, contempt and public opprobrium.

In the circumstances, our Client hereby demands that within seven (7) days of your receipt of this letter you publish on the front page of your newspaper a full and unconditional retraction and apology of the defamatory publication with equal or greater prominence.

For the avoidance of doubt, nothing short of a front-page apology of equal prominence will suffice

We trust that you will afford this matter the urgent attention it demands. Should you elect to ignore same or trivialize this demand, our Client is fully prepared to vindicate her reputation before the law courts

Any consequences flowing from your refusal to take immediate corrective action will be entirely of your own making

Be advised accordingly!!

Yours faithfully,

………………………………..
