Created for Fruitfulness
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Genesis 1:26
Genesis chapter 1 gives us an account of the creation of the world and, ultimately, the creation of human beings. It teaches us that the entire universe, animals, and human beings are the result of the carefully planned and purposeful work of an infinite God.
In the case of human beings, God created us as His image-bearers. We were created in the image and likeness of God.
Human beings were created to both resemble God and represent Him here on earth.
The purpose of bearing God’s image is to rule over His creation under His authority. This means that we can truly exercise dominion when we allow the image and likeness of God to be fully reflected in our lives.
The more we take after God in character and virtue, the more we are able to exercise godly dominion and become good stewards of His creation.
Our fruitfulness in the world is, therefore, closely connected to how much of God’s image is reflected in us.
We become fruitful stewards of the earth when God’s image is reflected in our lives. Shalom.
Prayer: Pray that God’s image and likeness will be increasingly revealed through your life.
