Planted by the Water
“ ‘Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard planted by the water; it was fruitful and full of branches because of abundant water. Ezekiel 19:10
Ezekiel 19 is a lament over Israel. The nation had flourished under God’s blessing, but because of disobedience, they were uprooted and taken into captivity. The chapter describes their eventual state as a place of desolation, like a desert.
Israel is portrayed through the imagery of a flourishing vine that had been planted beside abundant waters. Its fruitfulness and strength were connected to the nourishment it received from the waters.
This imagery reminds us of the importance of remaining connected to God, the source of all fruitfulness.
As long as we remain connected to Him, we flourish. When we disconnect from Him, we lose the source that nourishes and sustains our fruitfulness.
Ezekiel 19 reminds us that remaining fruitful should never be taken for granted. Our fruitfulness is closely connected to our relationship with God and our obedience to Him.
We stand to lose our fruitfulness when we disconnect from the Source of all fruitfulness, who is God. No branch can flourish when it is separated from the source that sustains it.
Yet, there is hope. When we repent, return to God, and restore our relationship with Him, He is able to restore what has been lost and cause us to flourish again.
God is the abundant water that nourishes and sustains us, enabling us to remain fruitful in every season. As long as we abide in Him, we can continue to grow, flourish, and bear fruit.
Stay connected to the Source, and you will continue to flourish. Shalom.
Prayer: Pray that you will continually remain connected to God, the Source of all fruitfulness, and that your life will continue to flourish in Him.
