The Base Movement (TBM) on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, gave its Founder, Dr. George Oti-Bonsu, a hero’s welcome at the Terminal 3 Arrival Hall of the Kotoka International Airport following a historic international honour in the United States.
The welcome address, delivered by Chief Operations Coordinator and former Independent Presidential Candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah, described the return as not just welcoming a man home, but celebrating a vision and mission determined to make a difference in Ghana.
Dr. Oti-Bonsu returned to Ghana after receiving the “Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Founding The Base Movement” award at the 15th Annual Mega 3G Media Awards & Celebrity Bash held on October 23 in Yonkers, New York.
According to the Movement, this latest award is the fifth major honour for its Founder in 2026 alone.
Mr. Yeboah recounted that on May 29, 2026 in Tamale, Dr. Oti-Bonsu was enskinned as Saha Naa (Lucky Chief) and also conferred as Nasara Naa (Chief of Success) by the Paramount Chief of Lamashegu, Naa Mahama Iddrisu – a title compared to King Midas.
In August, he received a Leadership and Nation Building Award from the Sankofa Institute in Accra, and in late September, Nana Antwi Boasiako II, Paramount Chief of Sekyeredumase in Ashanti Region, enstooled him as Development Chief of his hometown.
The address noted that before 2026, Dr. Oti-Bonsu had already received an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Business Management from Maryland State University, USA, a Global Excellence Business Award in Furniture, and an honour from Canada’s Honor Crest Institute in partnership with M-Gibes College in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The TBM used the occasion to restate its core mission. According to the address, the Movement was established in March 2026 to promote the good deeds and leadership qualities of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, whom TBM identifies as its Flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
“We want jobs for the youth. We want opportunities for the next generation. We want responsible leadership. We want a Ghana where patriotism, honesty, discipline and meritocracy are more than slogans,” the statement said.
In a direct message to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, the Movement described Wednesday’s airport reception as a mock mobilization exercise and a rehearsal for his future enstoolment.
“Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, if you are listening, consider this your friendly advance notice: TO BE FOREWARNED IS TO BE FOREARMED,” Mr. Yeboah declared.
He stressed that TBM is not being built to make noise and disappear, but to organise, mobilise and deliver, from the Board to the polling station.
Addressing critics who expect the Movement to fade by December 2026, the COC said: “Do not mistake patience for weakness, organisation for silence, or our present stage of development for our final destination.”
The event ended with TBM slogans: “THE BASE: MOVEMENT! THE BASE: JOBS FOR THE YOUTH! THE BASE: POWER! POWER! POWER, ONYANKOPON NSAWOMU, KENNEDY! KENNEDY! KENNEDY!”
How The Base Movement Is Winning Ghanaian Youth and Breaking Ghana’s Political Duopoly
At last there is an alternative to the long-standing NPP-NDC dominance. That force is The Base Movement (TBM), founded in March 2026 by entrepreneur Dr. George Oti-Bonsu, who committed his resources and reputation to building what he calls a credible third force.
TBM’s message is deliberately simple and youth-centred: “Jobs for the Youth” and “Opportunities for the Next Generation.” In a country where more than 60% of the population is under 35 and youth unemployment remains a major concern, the Movement’s focus on patriotism, honesty, discipline and meritocracy as governing principles, not just slogans, is resonating at the grassroots.
Its structure, built from a national Board down to polling stations, is designed to give young people direct roles in organizing, rather than just cheering.
The Movement’s momentum was on full display on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, when hundreds of members converged at Terminal 3 of Kotoka International Airport to give Dr. Oti-Bonsu a hero’s welcome following his international award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship in Yonkers, New York.
What is drawing the youth is not just titles, but a clear political project. TBM has openly identified Hon. Kennedy Agyapong as its Flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, promoting what it calls his good deeds and leadership qualities.
At the airport, leaders said the welcome was actually a “mock mobilisation exercise” – a rehearsal for the massive procession TBM intends to organize when it formally enstools Agyapong, telling him “to be forewarned is to be forearmed.”
This strategy is shifting the political landscape. While the NPP and NDC remain dominant, TBM is positioning itself not as a protest party but as an organizing and mobilizing machine built to deliver.
Its leaders insist they are not building to make noise and disappear, and have warned critics who expect the Movement to fade by December 2026 not to mistake “patience for weakness, organisation for silence.”
For many young Ghanaians disillusioned with the duopoly, TBM offers both belonging and purpose. Its chants – “THE BASE: MOVEMENT! THE BASE: JOBS FOR THE YOUTH! POWER! POWER! POWER, ONYANKOPON NSAWOMU, KENNEDY!” – combine a spiritual appeal with a political demand. As one organizer put it at the airport, a movement becomes powerful when its people believe in the mission and work together to achieve it.
With structures expanding across regions and constituencies, and with its Founder now carrying international and chieftaincy recognition, The Base Movement believes the hand of God is shaping it for a lasting legacy.
