The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has called for collective action to attain sustainable global peace, emphasizing its importance for the well-being of humanity.

He made this impassioned appeal during the launch of the Blueprint for Sustainable Global Peace by the Centre of Awareness Global Peace Mission (COA GPM) at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The high-profile event brought together eminent figures, including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse.

Prof. Samuel Ato Duncan, the President-General of COA GPM, hosted the gathering to unveil his comprehensive vision for fostering global peace and addressing contemporary challenges.

The Fragility And Necessity Of Peace

Mr. Dwumfour underscored the critical role of peace, describing it as a “fragile commodity” that must not be taken for granted. “Peace is dear to the heart of every Ghanaian,” he said, stressing the risks of toying with such a vital component of societal stability.

He lauded Prof. Duncan’s initiative, describing him as an accomplished son of Ghana whose work in herbal research and sustainable development has brought solace to many.

“This blueprint is a bold vision aimed at creating a peaceful and sustainable future, and it is one that deserves our unwavering support,” Mr. Dwumfour noted.

Challenges To Global Peace

Highlighting the complexities of attaining global peace, the GJA President pointed to a myriad of global and local challenges.

He mentioned geopolitical tensions, economic disparities, cultural divisions, and environmental degradation, such as illegal mining (“galamsey”), as threats to collective well-being.

Locally, he expressed concern about ethnic clashes in areas like Bawku and attacks on journalists, labeling them significant obstacles to peace.

With the 2024 general elections approaching, Mr. Dwumfour stressed the need for journalist safety. “Attacks on journalists are a threat to peace. As GJA President, their safety is my utmost priority,” he affirmed.

Thematic Significance

The program’s theme, “Unearthing the Purpose of Creation and the Goal of Humanity: A Necessary Foundation for Attaining Sustainable Global Peace,” resonated deeply with Mr. Dwumfour. He commended the theme for its relevance, as it aligns with the indispensable role humanity plays in fostering harmony.

He also highlighted the importance of addressing the root causes of conflict, including inequality, poverty, and injustice, while promoting dialogue, cultural exchange, education, and sustainable development.

A Call To Action

The GJA President urged stakeholders to collaborate in realizing the vision of the COA GPM Blueprint.

He drew inspiration from global icons like Nelson Mandela and Malala Yousafzai, urging resilience and determination in the face of challenges.

“In attaining global peace, we must foster inclusive dialogue, address inequalities, support sustainable development, and strengthen international cooperation,” he said.

He reaffirmed the GJA’s commitment to partnering with the COA GPM, pledging the association’s support in ensuring the blueprint’s success.

Mr. Dwumfour concluded speech a powerful call to action: “Attaining global peace is not a distant dream; it’s a collective responsibility.

Together, we can create a world where children grow up without knowing war, differences are celebrated, and human rights are universally respected.”

As the world grapples with growing challenges, the COA GPM Blueprint and the advocacy of leaders like Mr. Dwumfour offer a beacon of hope for a peaceful and sustainable future.
