Renowned Ghanaian dancehall artist, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, was recently interrogated by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with an ongoing investigation into a $4 million crime in the United States.

The investigation also involves a Lamborghini Urus, a car identified by the FBI and the US Justice Department as proceeds of the said crime, and two other individuals: Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving a jail term in the US, and one other unnamed person.

According to a press release from EOCO, the investigation seeks to uncover possible co-conspirators in Ghana and recover the proceeds of the crime.

Following requests from the FBI and the US Justice Department, EOCO tracked and located the vehicle in Ghana, subsequently seizing it in or around May of this year after identifying Charles Nii Armah Mensah as the person in possession.

The press release further indicates that on August 5, 2025, following a public claim by Shatta Wale that he purchased the car for US$150,000 from an unidentified party, EOCO invited him to assist with investigations.

His appointment was initially scheduled for August 13, 2025, but had to be rescheduled.
Shatta Wale eventually arrived at the EOCO office around 3 pm and insisted he would not cooperate until his counsel arrived.

Despite EOCO’s closing time being 5 pm, investigators and staff stayed until around 9 pm for the interrogation, after which he was granted bail around 9 pm with two sureties to be justified.

EOCO stated that Shatta Wale was unable to identify the person from whom he purchased the Lamborghini Urus, claiming he bought it from the “Street” and from someone possibly called “ZAK” whom he contacted via WhatsApp but whose identity and contact have since been discarded.

He also reportedly does not possess any documentation, such as a receipt or transfer documents, showing his ownership or how he acquired the vehicle.

EOCO has indicated that surety inspection will be conducted the following day and that they expect Charles Nii Armah Mensah to be available for further investigations as required. The investigation remains ongoing.
