The journey to the 2026 World Cup for Ghana has started with the invitation of 28 players for their friendly match against Wales in Cardiff City.

Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz has named the squad ahead of the Mundial hoping to get the final squad by the D Day of presentation to FIFA.

Under previous trainer Otto Addo, the Black Stars lost 5-1 to Germany in a friendly and were beaten 2-1 by Austria in another friendly.

Just last week Ghana with a makeshift team lost 1-2 to Mexico, with Assistant coach Desmond Offei in charge, but Ghanaians have been assured by the GFA President Kurt Okraku that all will be well and Ghana will present a formidable team for the World Cup.

Some players are missing from the team and it has caused a debate among football fans. Former skipper Andrea Ayew, Joseph Painsil, Derrick Kohn and Majeed Ashimeru are some of the names fans are mentioning.

Ghanaians love football and in 2016 they qualified for their first experience, in 2010 Ghana reached the Quarter Final of the World Cup, 2014 was a disaster and they could not make it to Russia in 2018, but Ghana came back in 2022 in Qatar, and did not impress. Ghana is back in the world competition again in 2026 and what is the expectation as 48 countries battle for honours, fame and fortune?
