President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Presidency, marking the formal assumption of office by the two newly appointed ministers as they take on key responsibilities within the government.
Mahama Ayariga, a seasoned parliamentarian and former Majority Leader, is expected to lead the Ministry for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, which plays a central role in coordinating local governance and strengthening relations with traditional authorities and religious institutions.
His portfolio also places him at the centre of efforts to improve local government administration and deepen collaboration between the central government, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, meanwhile, has been sworn in as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, a portfolio with broad responsibilities covering environmental protection, scientific advancement and technological development.
Her appointment comes at a time when environmental sustainability, climate resilience, scientific research and technology-driven development remain important components of Ghana’s national development agenda.
As Minister, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings is expected to contribute to policies aimed at addressing environmental challenges while promoting science, innovation and technology as tools for economic transformation.
The two ministers are also expected to work closely with other government agencies, institutions and stakeholders to translate the administration’s policy priorities into practical programmes and initiatives.
Their induction into government further expands the leadership team under President Mahama as his administration continues its efforts to deliver on its development commitments.
The ceremony formally ushers Ayariga and Dr Agyeman-Rawlings into their respective ministries, with both ministers now expected to begin work on the mandates assigned to them by the President.
