Accra, September 1, 2026— Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, is expected to lead the official launch of the Automotive Service Excellence and Youth Empowerment (ASEYE) Project, a major five-year initiative aimed at equipping Ghanaian youth with industry-relevant automotive skills.
The launch is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, Accra, with the programme expected to bring together key stakeholders from government, industry, academia and development partners.
The ASEYE Project, which will run from 2026 to 2030, is being implemented by Plan International Ghana, with funding and strategic support from Hyundai Motor Company and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The initiative comes at a time when Ghana is seeking to strengthen technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and improve the transition of young people from skills training into productive employment.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has recently reaffirmed government’s commitment to reforming TVET by integrating practical, digital and entrepreneurial skills into training programmes.
At Thursday’s ceremony, Minister Iddrisu is scheduled to deliver the keynote address, placing education and skills development at the centre of discussions on Ghana’s industrial and youth development agenda.
His participation is expected to highlight government’s interest in strengthening partnerships that connect education and technical training directly to the needs of industry, particularly in sectors experiencing technological transformation.
The ASEYE Project is specifically designed to strengthen Ghana’s TVET system by equipping young women and men with competencies required in the automotive industry, including emerging technologies such as Electric Vehicles (EVs).
Through the initiative, young people are expected to gain practical automotive skills and competencies that can improve their employability while also creating opportunities for entrepreneurship and self-employment.
The project further seeks to contribute to the transformation of Ghana’s automotive sector by building stronger collaboration between government, industry and academic institutions.
The involvement of Hyundai Motor Company and KOICA is also expected to bring international technical and strategic support to the initiative, while Plan International Ghana will spearhead implementation over the five-year period.
The project is expected to place particular emphasis on creating opportunities for young people, with the broader objective of developing a pipeline of skilled personnel capable of responding to the changing demands of Ghana’s automotive industry.
The launch ceremony will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to improving the quality and relevance of TVET education in Ghana.
Hon. George Opare Addo, Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, is also expected to attend the ceremony and deliver a solidarity message focused on government efforts to create opportunities for Ghana’s young population.
Representatives from Hyundai Motor Company, KOICA and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea are also expected to make remarks, underlining the international partnership behind the initiative.
With the automotive industry increasingly embracing new technologies, particularly electric mobility, the ASEYE Project is expected to serve as an important intervention in preparing Ghana’s young workforce for emerging opportunities.
The initiative also aligns with ongoing efforts to establish stronger links between TVET institutions and industry, including the development of automotive skills hubs.
As Minister Haruna Iddrisu prepares to lead the launch, attention will be focused on how the ASEYE Project can translate its ambitious objectives into tangible skills, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for Ghanaian youth, while supporting the country’s broader industrialisation and workforce development goals.
