Imitators of God
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. Ephesians 5:1
Ephesians calls us to imitate the character of God because we are His beloved children.
We became children of God by believing in His Son, Jesus Christ. Faith in Christ brought us into sonship with God.
We did not earn our sonship by doing good things; we received it by believing in Christ.
However, now that we are God’s beloved children, the character of our Father should be evident in our lives.
Children often reflect the character, habits, and attitudes of their parents. These become evidence of their family identity. In the same way, our lifestyle should reveal that we are children of God.
When we love unconditionally, care for others, forgive, and submit ourselves to God, we demonstrate that we are truly His children.
Being a child of God is demonstrated more by our behaviour than by our name or confession. We can call ourselves children of God, but the true evidence of our sonship is seen in how we live.
When the character of Christ is revealed in our lives, we demonstrate that we truly belong to God and are His children.
Look to Jesus, follow His example, and let His character shape your lifestyle. Shalom.
Prayer: Pray that the Holy Spirit will empower you to live as a true child of God, reflecting the character of your Heavenly Father in every area of your life.
