Church Service

Church services have been held across the globe to commemorate Easter Sunday, also called Resurrection Sunday to mark the rebirth of Jesus Christ.

Resurrection Sunday occurs on the third day following Jesus’ crucifixion on Good Friday by the Romans at Calvary. Believers celebrate the day as it signifies Christ’s defeat of death through His resurrection which gives hope of salvation for Christians.

According to the Christian tradition, the death of Jesus Christ paid for the sins of humanity, while His resurrection symbolizes believers’ victory over death. Many Christians across the globe celebrate the day with special church services, candlelight processions, and the tolling of church bells.

Typical of the day Christians wear white with other white accessories to signify victory amid singing and dancing over Christ’s defeat over death.

Resurrection Sunday church services in Ghana in the last two years have been moderate owing to the ravaging effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This year will, however, be a little different as covid restrictions have been lifted.

Easter Sunday presents an opportunity for congregants to express gratitude to Jesus for paying the debt of their sins and hope his resurrection will renew their faith. Christ has indeed risen.

GBC News’ Jacob Aggrey visited the Hope Baptist Church at Lapaz six to six to find out how the day is being celebrated. Head pastor of the church Reverend Sampson Boye preached on the theme; ”the resurrection power of Christ is still at work”.

He used the occasion to encourage the congregation to be sober in Christ ”for He is alive and go to Christ for all your needs in prayer”.
