The 24th African Senior Athletics Championships has been officially opened at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, marking one of the biggest athletics events ever hosted in West Africa.
Chief of Staff at the Presidency of Ghana, Hon. Julius Debrah joined the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams and the President of World Athletics, Lord Sebastian Coe as well as executives of the Confederation of African Athletics to declare the championship open.
The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee Richard Akpokavie and Bawa Fuseini, President of Ghana Athletics were all in attendance.
The colorful opening ceremony featured thrilling performances from renowned artistes, notably, Edem and Stonebwoy thrilling the spectators, athletes, officials and distinguished delegates from across Africa in attendance.
The championship promises exciting days of exciting competition and unforgettable moments.
Before the action on the tracks and on the field, the athletics personalities planted new trees at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Ghana has won 101 medals in the history of the African Athletics Championship, however the countries to watch are Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Algeria, Morocco and Zambia.
