Accra, Ghana — Ghana’s tourism journalism landscape continues to receive a major boost following the successful tourism news reporting training organized in Accra by Inter Tourism Expo Accra, led by tourism development strategist, media trainer, and CEO, Emmanuel Treku.
One of the outstanding participants of the training, Seth Ameyaw Danquah, a stringer with the Ghana News Agency and Chief Executive Officer of Despite Travels, has gained international recognition following his participation in the specialized tourism journalism training programme.
Mr. Danquah has now been recognized by Tourism Today News Company in Turkey as a lead tourism journalist for the Africa tourism column on its international tourism news portal, where he is expected to publish tourism-related stories and destination narratives from across Africa.
The recognition comes after Mr. Danquah published a testimonial article highlighting the impact, relevance, and practical knowledge gained during the tourism news reporting training programme held in Accra last month.
According to organizers, the quality of his publication and the insights demonstrated in his article attracted the attention of international tourism media stakeholders, eventually leading to the opportunity for global collaboration and recognition.
Speaking on the development, Emmanuel Treku, who served as Knowledge Partner and Training Lead for the programme, described the achievement as a major milestone for tourism journalism development in Ghana.

“This recognition is a direct result of the practical knowledge, exposure, and storytelling skills gained from the tourism reporting training. Seth’s testimonial article demonstrated professionalism, understanding of tourism communication, and the importance of destination storytelling. We are proud that the training is already producing international impact,” he stated.
Mr. Treku further emphasized that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to build a specialized Tourism Press Corps in Ghana capable of promoting domestic tourism, cultural heritage, hospitality investment opportunities, and destination branding through professional journalism.
He also assured journalists across other regions of Ghana that additional training sessions would soon be rolled out nationwide.
“The next regional training programme will be held in Koforidua in the Eastern Region as part of efforts to decentralize tourism journalism capacity building and further support the formation of the Tourism Press Corps in Ghana,” he added.
Commenting on the importance of continuous professional training for journalists, Madam Rebecca Ekpe, Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association and Founder of the Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Program for Journalists and Content Creators, commended the initiative by Inter Tourism Expo Accra and emphasized the critical role of specialized media training in strengthening journalism standards in Ghana.
According to her, continued professional development programmes are essential in equipping journalists and content creators with modern storytelling skills, international media exposure, and specialized reporting knowledge needed to compete globally and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Training initiatives such as this are very important because journalism is evolving rapidly, especially with the growing influence of digital media and niche reporting sectors like tourism. Ghanaian journalists must continuously build their capacity, embrace specialized reporting, and position themselves for international opportunities.
Tourism journalism has the power to shape destination visibility, influence investment, and preserve cultural identity, and therefore such professional development programmes must be encouraged and sustained,” Madam Rebecca Ekpe stated.
The training programme brought together journalists, bloggers, tourism communicators, media practitioners, and content creators to build capacity in tourism storytelling, destination marketing communication, travel reporting, tourism investment reporting, digital tourism media, and international tourism journalism standards.
Industry stakeholders have described the development as a positive step towards strengthening Ghana’s tourism media ecosystem and creating more international opportunities for local journalists through specialized tourism communication training.
The recognition of Seth Ameyaw Danquah is expected to inspire more Ghanaian journalists to pursue tourism journalism as a strategic niche capable of contributing significantly to Ghana’s tourism promotion agenda and Africa’s global destination visibility.
The initiative by Inter Tourism Expo Accra continues to position Ghana as an emerging hub for tourism media development and destination storytelling excellence in Africa.
