Seth Ameyaw Danquah, Chief Executive Officer of Despite Travels, a travel and tour firm in Ghana, has gained international recognition as a tourism writer following his participation in the 29th East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel (EMITT) Exhibition in Istanbul, Türkiye.

Mr. Danquah has now been recognized by Tourism Today News, an online tourism news portal based in Turkey as a lead tourism journalist for the Africa tourism column on its international tourism news portal, where he is expected to publish tourism-related stories and destination narratives from across Africa.

His recognition comes after an effective post-exhibition collaboration with the host company, ICA Events and the President of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB), Murtaza Kalender.

As part of the recognition, Mr Danquah is expected to inspire more Ghanaian journalists to pursue tourism journalism as a strategic niche capable of contributing significantly to Ghana’s tourism promotion agenda and Africa’s global destination visibility.

Mr Danquah, who is also a stringer with the Ghana News Agency and a trainee of the joint Inter Tourism Expo and Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Program for Journalists and Content Creators, deemed the recognition as timely, especially when Ghana is intensifying efforts to market its tourism potential to the Eurasian market.

According to him, he attended the exhibition in dual capacity as a media professional and tourism stakeholder, with a primary focus on marketing Ghana and Africa at large.

He emphasized that the mission is to position Africa in particular Ghana as the preferred destination for eco-tourism, heritage and adventure.

He highlighted Ghana’s unique blend of history and nature, citing attractions like the ancient stilt village of Nzulezu, the pristine beaches of Busua, Kakum National Park, Paga Crocodile Pond, Wli Waterfalls and the historical significance of Slave Castles.

Last year, Mr Danquah attended the Universal Tourism Exhibition (UTE) in Guangzhou, China where he showcased Ghana’s tourism potential to international audiences and wooed investors to invest in Ghana’s tourism sector.

At the UTE, he highlighted Ghana’s natural landscapes, cultural diversity, peace and security as key factors making it an attractive destination for tourists and investors.

This year’s EMITT saw 19,849 total visitors, 109 visiting countries, 552 exhibitors, 28 participating countries with over 3,500 B2B meetings and 300 invited tour operators. The 2027 edition is expected to be hosted in Athens, Greece.
