Ghana Para Sports will for the first time feature in swimming at the 2026 Commonwealth Games as para swimmer Promise Wonder Atsu Aheto will compete in Glasgow, Scotland from 23rd July to 2nd August 2026.

Promise Aheto secured qualification through a bipartite slot following his classification and outstanding performance at the World Para Swimming (WPS) World Para Swimming Series in Australia in February 2026.

At the competition, he recorded personal best times of 1:38.58 in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke S9 and 31.72 in the Men’s 50m Freestyle S13, qualifying him to compete in either event at the Commonwealth Games.

This historic achievement marks a major milestone for Ghana Para Sports and highlights the growing progress of para sports development in Ghana through collaboration and institutional support.

Personalities like the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, the Chef de Mission for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Madam Farida Ayishatu Idriss and the President of Ghana Para Swimming, as well as the leadership of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana, including Mr. Samson Deen, Mr. Henry Larbi, and Mr. Majeed Eldeen must be commended for the administrative and financial support provided to Promise Aheto and his teammate during the World Para Swimming Series in Australia, which contributed significantly to securing this historic qualification.
