Working With God
For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose. Philippians 2:13
God is at work, and so we work.
In Philippians 2:12, we are instructed to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Verse 13 reveals why we are able to do this: because God is the One who works in us both to will and to do according to His good pleasure.
Our efforts are necessary because they are a response to what God is already doing in us. God does not do for us what He has empowered us to do ourselves. Nevertheless, our actions are always a response to His grace and His work within us.
God gives us both the desire and the willingness to accomplish His purposes. Because He has planted the desire and the will within us, we respond by taking faithful action.
At times, God may place a desire or assignment in our hearts that seems far beyond our abilities and resources. However, when we take practical steps of faith, we begin to see His hand at work, guiding and empowering us through every step of the journey.
We work because God is already working in us to bring about His intended purposes.
Therefore, do not be afraid when God is prompting you to take steps of faith. It is a sign that He is at work in your life. Take those steps, trust Him, and watch Him work through you for His glory. Shalom.
