The Great Exchange
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. II Corinthians 5:21
We are righteous in Christ because He exchanged His righteousness for our sinfulness.
Sinfulness is a helpless condition that only God can deal with decisively. In His great love, God initiated the process of our salvation through Christ.
Jesus, who knew no sin, was made sin for us and suffered the consequences of sin so that He could exchange His righteousness for ours.
Jesus did not merely bear our sins on the cross; He fully paid the penalty for our sins.
Christ exchanged His righteousness for our sinfulness. Because of us, Christ was made sin so that we could be made righteous in Him.
We cannot claim righteousness before God based on our own merit. Even our best efforts fall far short of God’s perfect standard of holiness.
But in Christ, we meet the full requirements of God’s standard because His righteousness has been made available to us.
This is the greatest exchange that has ever occurred: a holy God became man, took upon Himself the sins of humanity, and fully paid the price for them so that His righteousness could be made available to all who believe.
The righteousness found in Christ is freely available to everyone who believes. Shalom.
Prayer: Pray that you will continually walk in and live out the righteousness that God has made available to you through Christ.
