MobileMoney Fintech Limited (MMFL) Chief Executive Officer, Shaibu Haruna, has emerged as one of the key voices shaping discussions on Africa’s rapidly evolving fintech landscape at the MTN Group Fintech Summit 2026.

Haruna took centre stage on the second day of the summit as he joined other chief executives within the MTN fintech ecosystem for a high-level panel discussion examining the performance, opportunities and future prospects of fintech markets across Africa.

The session, held under the theme “Africa’s Velocity Index: Where MTN Fintech Markets Stand Today,” brought together senior fintech leaders from different African markets to assess the pace of digital financial transformation and identify areas requiring greater attention.

Joining Haruna on the panel were Phrase Lubega of MoMo Uganda, Komba Malukutila of MoMo Zambia, Alain Nono of MoMo Cameroon and Bode Abifarin of MoMo Payment Service Bank.

The gathering provided a platform for the executives to share market experiences, assess emerging trends and explore strategies that could enable Africa’s fintech industry to move beyond traditional mobile money services.

For Ghana, Haruna’s participation offered an opportunity to bring the country’s extensive mobile money experience into a broader continental discussion about the next phase of digital financial services.

With Ghana having established a strong mobile money ecosystem, the conversation is increasingly shifting towards how existing digital platforms can be leveraged to provide customers and businesses with a wider range of financial solutions.

Haruna’s contribution focused on the need to strengthen digital ecosystems while ensuring that innovation translates into tangible benefits for consumers, merchants and businesses across the continent.

The panel also examined the development of digital payments and merchant acceptance, as well as the readiness of various markets to embrace more advanced fintech products and services.

Beyond adoption figures, the discussions highlighted the importance of creating interconnected ecosystems that can support sustained growth, improve customer experiences and expand access to financial services.

The summit also placed considerable emphasis on the relationship between innovation and regulation, particularly as fintech companies increasingly deploy emerging technologies and data-driven solutions.

Earlier engagements during the summit’s Regulatory and Policy Day brought together policymakers, regulators and industry stakeholders to deliberate on issues including digital credit, data governance, artificial intelligence, consumer protection and regulatory innovation.

These discussions underscored the need for stronger collaboration between fintech operators and public-sector institutions to ensure that technological advancement is accompanied by appropriate safeguards and consumer confidence.

The participation of African fintech CEOs at the summit therefore provided a valuable opportunity for the industry to reflect on its progress while developing strategies for the next stage of growth and inclusion.

Held under the overarching theme “Maximum Velocity As One,” the MTN Group Fintech Summit 2026 is bringing together key players from across Africa’s financial technology ecosystem to explore how innovation, market readiness and effective regulation can work together to accelerate the continent’s digital financial transformation.
