MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, on Saturday led a colourful anniversary float through parts of Accra as the telecommunications giant celebrates 30 years of operations in Ghana.

The float, which brought together management, staff, partners and other stakeholders of the company, formed part of activities marking three decades of connecting individuals, businesses and communities through telecommunications and digital innovation.

The anniversary procession highlighted MTN Ghana’s journey since entering the Ghanaian market, showcasing its contribution to the country’s telecommunications industry, financial inclusion, digital transformation and socio-economic development.

The celebration also provided an opportunity for the company to appreciate its customers and stakeholders for their continued support over the years, while reaffirming its commitment to driving innovation, expanding connectivity and creating greater value for Ghanaians.

The float, characterised by music, dance and the iconic yellow branding, brought business to a standstill as MTN celebrated three decades of connecting Ghanaians.

Briefing the media on the sidelines of the procession, Chief Human Resource Officer of MTN Ghana, Esi Mmirba Wilson, said the anniversary is a celebration of people, resilience and impact.

She reflected on 30 years of connecting communities, empowering businesses and bridging the digital divide across all 16 regions of Ghana.

According to her, MTN at 30 is not just about the company, but about the over 32 million customers who have stayed loyal to the network through its evolution.

“This milestone honours every Ghanaian who has been part of our journey. We would not be here without you,” she stated.

She emphasized that MTN remains absolutely committed to serving its customers with more innovative, reliable and inclusive digital solutions moving forward.

Tracing the company’s history, she noted that MTN Ghana’s foundation was built on bold firsts that transformed Ghana’s telecoms landscape between 1994 and 2005.

The company, she recalled, pioneered mobile telephony at scale and led major investments that brought network access to underserved communities.

MTN Ghana also made history as the first telecom operator to introduce Mobile Money (MoMo) in Ghana, revolutionising financial inclusion for millions.

That single innovation, she said, has grown into Ghana’s biggest financial services platform, empowering traders, SMEs, and families.

MTN further set a capital market record by becoming the first telco to be listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) through its historic Initial Public Offering (IPO).

The IPO, which attracted thousands of Ghanaian shareholders, was described as a landmark in democratising ownership of a multinational brand.

Today, MTN Ghana offers Pay As You Go, Pay Monthly, Mobile Data, and Mobile Financial Services and continues to dominate as market leader.

Madam Wilson said the street march from Ministries to Osu was symbolic – starting from the heart of governance and ending in the heart of commerce and culture.

She disclosed that similar anniversary activations, community engagements, and customer appreciation events will be held nationwide in the coming weeks.

Customers who lined the streets cheered the convoy, with many sharing testimonials of how MTN has been part of their personal and business growth stories.

Staff members, clad in MTN@30 anniversary paraphernalia, said the celebration reaffirms their commitment to put customers first in the next 30 years.
