Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

The Executives and entire Members of AYA (Asante Youth Association) and KuYA (Kumasi Youth Association) want to put across our displeasure over the past few days in the aftermath of His Royal Majesty (HRM) Otumfuo Osei Tutu II address at the first Asanteman Council meeting 2022.

We have realized that there have been many inconsistencies and groundless assertions in some media houses which sought to create the myopic impression that there is a conflict between HRM Otumfour Osei Tutu II and Dormaahene.

This assertion is unfounded and we find it very absurd, quite disgusting that any Ghanaian journalist would report such unacceptable headlines to create confusion. How can a servant in a kingdom be equal to the master, and even to be in conflict with the King?

Recently, there have been many distortions in the history of the Asante kingdom and this has diverse repercussions. As a wise and courageous King, he sought to entreat his chiefs during the first Asanteman Council meeting for the year 2022 that, no attempt to turn or sidestep the history of Asanteman and for that matter, Ghana, shall ever succeed.

HRM further told his Paramount Chiefs who are in regions outside the Asante region to know that so far as there is documented proof of their enstoolment and how they swore to the Golden Stool, it has become entrenched to be altered by the mere creation of land boundaries. They remain Asante Chiefs, and no one can change it due to the creation of new regions. Political boundaries have no effect on traditional supremacy.

It is rather unfortunate that some media houses sought to play mischief intentionally wanted to acrimonize, and distort the Asante history with unworthy headlines which misrepresent the comments of the Occupant of the Golden Stool as banter or conflict with the Chief of Dormaa. Below are some wreckless and irresponsible headlines by some media houses;
“ASANTEHENE, DORMAAHENE FIGHTS OVER HISTORY AND POWER” The Chronicle Newspaper
“IF YOU ARE A MAN, I’M ALSO A MAN” Starr FM.

Also Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) statement to the media houses with the heading “GJA urges extreme caution in coverage of Asantehene/Dormahene Conflict”. We ask, which conflict are the GJA talking about?

Finally, we wish to use this opportunity to advise all the members of GJA led by Mr. Affail Monney and other media houses to be circumspect in their headlines and reportage devoid of sensationalism.

HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene is known across the globe to be a peace-loving King, so there is no way he would have a conflict with his subjects or any other group.

We also appeal to the government agencies in charge of Chieftaincy to be proactive to help reduce such deviant occurrences.

Lastly, we caution all political parties to refrain from politicising comments made by HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.
