Portuguese and newly appointed Black Stars Coach Carlos Queiroz arrived in Accra on Wednesday evening and on Thursday he met the Minister of Sports & Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams who presented him with a Ghanaian Fugu (smock) to signify that he is now part of the Ghana people.
Later in the afternoon of Thursday, the coach had an exciting encounter with the enthusiastic Ghanaian sports media.
He laid out his vision and mission and answered questions from the journalists.
Some of the take-aways in his message was that he is a winning coach and ready to give every Ghanaian footballer the chance to play.
He revealed his background in sports science which he hopes to use to support the sports nation.
He was also glad that 33 million coaches are ready to assist him, and he hopes to achieve in Ghana, despite describing the mission as his toughest.
From his answers, it was evident that Coach Carlos has accepted the challenge and is ready to take Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The supporters of the Black Stars were in attendance at the Alisa Hotel where the Press Conference was held.
The supporters showed that they are ready to support the new coach and they sang and danced to his admiration.
Coach Carlos has been to the FIFA World Cup on four occasions just like Ghana and the 2026 edition will be the fifth appearance.
Ghana first qualified for the World Cup in Germany 2006, and participated in South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Qatar 2022 and now USA, Mexico and Canada 2026.
The World Cup is the biggest football festival and most Ghanaians want the coach to take the Black Stars to at least the semi final.
Ghana will play Croatia, England and Panama at the group stage, and many football fans believe the Black Stars have what it takes to qualify to the next round.
